I am also looking around for a headset.
Thus far I have seen:
Creative HS-600
Logitech USB Premium 350
Logitech Premium USB Notebook Headset (doesn't seem to be available locally)
I also looked at the Sennheiser's but could not get too much details on them. I know Kalahari.net sells them: http://www.kalahari.net
lildeath - I dabbled in the music business for years, and still do from time to time - i own 3 pairs, and i have tried MANY other closed headphones before - NONE of them came close to the HD25-1.
Granted - They are ment for Recording Studio use/Disc Jockey use/Serious Music lovers - and yes they are VERY expensive for gaming purposes - but HELL - it makes a difference!
You only live once - spoil yourself because anything cheaper is an insult to your senses!.
I must agree crazy or not, you put all the money in the world into the inside of the case. Ram, Storage, Graphics cards which are often in the R1500 - R3000 region. And which will outdate depending on how much you spent in as little as 1-2years. Three days ago I bought something I never thought I would; I had been looking for a pair of "gaming" head sets for years now. Everything hurt my ears, both physically and audibly as they make you tierd. My price range use to be in the region of R300 - R500. I realized that if you want high quality audio then you will have to spend money. Much like many high end goods, I dived in an bought a pair of Sennheiser 595s and being able to truly game for hours at a time, switching between music and movies, and forgetting you have them on is more than their worth (R1600) I know I will have this pair 5 years down the line and that if anything needs replacing on them then there are always spare parts. I don’t put a price on my ears, and I did not want a limited experience when it comes to my movies, games and music. Buy what will last, but something that will compliment your soundcard. Go big or go home!
CrazyMadMan - Agreed - you got to spend if you want quality. and the nice thing about Sennheiser - (not sure about the cheaper ones) the parts are all replaceable.
Thenagain - for you guys who want to spend less, and never tried the "Good stuff" - doubt you'd appreciate what we're talking about until you try!...
