Hello,

I am actually new to the forums (and South Africa) and some stuff here are... different.

Firstly, I am looking to get internet. It is a must for me. This is what I do:

- Gamer. I play a lot on Xbox One, PS4 and PC and prefer to buy my games digitally.
- I watch A LOT of videos online.
- Reading/Studying (Learning a new programming language)
- For downloading: Not so much, but I still do download. Also, I am looking to install Windows 10 on my PC and laptop so that's a bunch of GB already used.

What would you recommend?

Right now, my budget is R600 and I don't have a DSL line yet.

I was looking at Crystal Web. They have a 2mbps premium uncapped for R489 (with DSL line included, when I get my DSL line. Otherwise it's R349 p/m). Would it be worth it for me?

Also... Routers! The Router they are selling is R999 (cheapest). That's too much, so If anyone could recommend something cheaper and reliable, I would greatly appreciate it!

Also, why is a DSL line required here? I thought a phone line would be enough

All help would be appreciated. Thanks! :)

u can get cheaper one if u order online
http://www.wootware.co.za/tp-link-td-8840t-adsl2-modem-router.html

with the phone line/dsl line

phoneline-hire the line itself
the adsl line is basically the fee u pay per month to activate the internet

https://www.webafrica.co.za/adsl/
2mbps+line is 350pm

can get the 4mbps and still be in your buget

webafrica is great for streaming

Thank you for the reply! its great to be here! :)

For the WebAfrica, is there a Throttle for the amount of data I can use per month?

Webafrica's accounts are star rated, the more you use the more you get shaped/throttled. If you get down to below 3 stars then it will feel like you are being throttled anyway.

CW premium uncapped is probably the best uncapped in SA at the moment especially for gaming/streaming - I have a 40mbps with CW uncapped premium and it is beautiful :D

How is the 4MB premium uncapped for downloading from CW?

You should read his post again.

I don't think home uncapped will work for him.

The home premium from crystalweb is the same as the business uncapped from web africa which is what he needs.

yes,but his buget is R600 (data+line+ voice line?)

he says he streams alot,and 2mbps for streaming??

also 4mb home should have the same thresholds as a high-end 2mbps?

Yeah, I use to have 100mbps down and 50-60mbps up back when I was in London and oh boy do I miss it!

Also, there is no throttling or shaped/unshaped there. It was the same speeds all the time, speeds never went down no matter how much you downloaded, so throttling here came as a shock to me!

Also, theres no seperate charge for a line for internet. Fibre optic was always part of the phone line or installed seperately (ADSL was the same, but people stopped usng it and moved to fibre optics).

The only bad thing was, you were stuck on a 1 year contract. Month-to-month payments never existed lol

Sorry, I should have rephrased that. I am already paying for the phone line (R189 p/m). The R600 is just for an ADSL line and data.

Sorry about that.

LOL yeah! Im probably gonna have to limit myself, but still. I need internet.

If I could use around 400GB a month and time my downloads to after 00:00 and not be throttled, then I should survive lol

Let's see:
Budget of R600 for Data + Line

Line
2Mbs-> R165
4Mbs-> R299
10Mbs-> R425

Data
2Mbs-> R435
4Mbs-> R301
10Mbs-> R175

Be prepared to be told when to download, what you can download and enjoy the ride.
My personal choices would be: Crystal Web, Vox Telecom, WA or RSAWeb

scrap RSAWeb - Resellers of afrihost

It's not the same at all. Whatsoever. Crystal Web operates its own network management policies for every single account we provide. We do not resell anyone else's accounts, nor do we share profiles with any other ISP at all. Absolutely every account now on our network was designed and built by Crystal Web intended for our customers and resellers. If another ISP uses the same network management policies as Crystal Web, then they are in all likelihood resellers of Crystal Web, however I can confirm that premium home uncapped and WA business uncapped are not the same accounts at all...

I've tried all ISP's and my MWEB 4MB unshaped/uncapped for R545pm is the best I've found.

Averaging 40ms to local servers, and my friend who is also MWEB gets 6ms - so I imagine 40ms is the best I'll get out of my exchange.

you sound like a heavy downloader..... :) - yes takes one to know one :P

The cheapest (per GB) is :
https://www.voxtelecom.co.za/fat-pipe-lite (25GB daytime data) - R89

https://www.voxtelecom.co.za/uncapped-bolt-on - uncapped 6pm to 6am and weekends (at 4Mbps this is ~ 576 GB ) - R59

Telkom analog line R190

ADSL line (i go through a bundled package at access - a few extra GB's at the same price) - 10GB /4mvps combo is R289
https://www.axxess.co.za/combos-adsl

Total R627

If you want more data, just upgrade the adsl combo to 10Mbps (additional R110)

This will then give you vox 25GB + 10GB for daytime usage (if you work 8am to 5pm, this will be more than enough for that one hour of usage.), and uncapped in the evenings. You can then let downloads run anytime after 6pm, and schedule them to stop just before 6am in the week.

first problem you might have - ADSL lines is really not so common
