joining should be fine but hosting on a 384 is a no go IMO

Well, not a complete no go, but you won't be able to host more than 4 peeps.

I like Cybersmart, I'm on their oneprice unshaped and it's great. WebAfrica is also very good.

Will only be hosting co-ops. Will this be fine?

I've been very impressed with Imaginet's unshaped so far .... almost time to test it on Live :D

what is the big attraction hosting anyway (for more than 4 players I mean) ... isn't it better to just join?

It's a matter of finding a game. If you want to play something like Gears, CoD4 or Halo and you want your friends to be able to join on your game you need a decent line, otherwise your constantly waiting for someone else to host a game.

Aha, I see ....... well no worries for me, I'll just constantly hobo onto you chaps' hosted games :p

If you get 512 you may just as well get a 4mb line for a few rands more.

If you are going to play with local players you don't need an unshaped account as all local traffic is unshaped.

Ive hosted 2 seperate games using 2 different xbox on my 4MBps line.
I am with WebAfrica and very happy with their service.

You can create a pre-paid ADSL account to run seperately on the same line.

But as far as gaming goes it has to be ADSL as any of the other tech i.e. iBurst/3G has much higher latency.
