Best ISP for just web browsing

Hi everyone

Here's my scenario:

The company I work for already has a leased line, but we have just installed a 1Meg ADSL line which we will use for web browsing (i.e. port 80 traffic) ONLY. We are looking for the best ADSL account available for web browsing, for under R6K per month. We estimate that we will push about 100GB of traffic over the link per month.

For my home connection, I use a standard SAIX 3GB account, and web browsing is quite fast. I've also tried an IS account, and it seemed considerably slower during the day.

Can anyone give any feedback regarding the speeds of the various accounts? My idea is to get something like Imaginet's Freestyle, which will work out to approximately R6K per month.

Is there anything better/faster available similar money, but without a 12 or 24 month contract?

Thanks for any feedback.

J.

Why don't you get IS Business DSL which is uncapped? If you're using over 25Gb a month you want to go for the uncapped packages (I'm not sure how you missed Imaginet's premium uncapped services for R2700 on that same page)

Yip that would be the best. Datapro, Imaginet, Mweb.... And alot of others. Even some ads on myadsl.co.za about the uncapped. U could have 2, 1 meg ADSL lines and 2 IS uncapped accounts for 6K/month to adjust for the decrease in speed (never tried an IS account, maybe the IS/SAIX link was affecting the speed?)

As I mentioned before, I found the IS offering to be rather slow. I don't think we'll get anywhere close to 1Mbit during the day. In addition, I believe that IS uses Satellite connectivity for ADSL whereas SAIX uses fibre (?).

Unless things have changed. Does anyone here use IS's R2700 offering, and if so, how does it compare with SAIX?

Well SAIX does use undersea cables (Fibre) but its more expensive (+- 75/gig) and since u don't really need to worry about lantency i don't see why a slight delay in response would be a problem for web browsing. And if u can get a month to month account, then if u not happy with the speed u can always just switch to SAIX. I just think u should give the uncapped account a try and then save some dosh. Maybe Xmass bonus?

Fair enough. Do you know which ISPs would allow us to use this service on a month-month basis?

Our current (leased) line is with IS, and one advantage of using SAIX is that we'd have a bit of redundancy if IS was giving hassles.

None of the IS Business Uncapped Solutions work month to month. Their all 12month contracts.

We do however offer a 512K package, no p2p allowed but it is the same 512K IS Uncapped package for cheaper, and month to month.

By the looks of it, your more interested in a 1Mbit package.

Why not simply offer a 1Mbit package for twice the price? How much is the 512K package?

JayM - A little update, we have just received confirmation that we will be allowed to offer 1024K uncapped, same as our 512K package for double the price.
