Cape Town?
Yes, why?
Cape Town would generally have 30-40ms lower latency to international servers compared to Gauteng, am I wrong?
20 packets transmitted, 20 packets received, 0.0% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 170.955/171.771/173.391/0.564 ms

You are completely correct. Because WACS terminates in the western cape therefore people in the western cape will have better latency to the UK because they have less fibre to travel along to get to the UK.
If I'm in CPT. I connect straight to WACS from my DSL Network.
If I'm in JHB. I have to connect to multiple national Fibre cables before I get to Cape Town (Adding 20 - 50ms Generally)
Fair enough, but what about other backbones?
WACS terminates in London. So it's the only Fibre Backbone from south africa that lands directly in Europe.
So based on the above results, MWEB and Afrihost (and Crystal Web?) seem to use WACS? Then what does IS use, with its 15ms higher latency? Telkom Internet would be SAIX I'd imagine.
Yes But remember their servers are in Different DC's and the routing is different on different backbones.
sorry for bombing in your thread ,but i would like to know whats the difference between axxess and AH
i know they both run on the MTN backbone, but which company is the better one to go for?
None, avoid MTN based ADSL. Axxess is good for cheap, mobile data. Nothing else much really.
