Hi

I am looking for a capped account to supplement my Bolt-on from Vox for Netflix streaming. This will mainly be used in the week in early evenings, so Webafrica with midnight data does not really help (wanted to get an account with them). So I tried an Afrihost trial account (I know, streaming issues but I am in a small area and maybe they don't have as much issues here). That worked well, was streaming for 3 hours without problems. Then got a 20+20 capped account, but last night it buffered and stuttered a lot so I switched back to Vox which only buffered once. Now I see that Axxess has the exact same pricing structure that Afrihost has.

The question: Will Axxess perform better than Afrihost for streaming?

PS. Also noticed last night a lot of packet loss on the Afrihost network (or MTN network rather).

Thanks

Afrihost are waiting for some upgrades to come through. This would affect Axxess as well.

After the upgrades come through, who knows what will happen, although I can say that in Durban my Afrihost accounts are running 100% with no packet loss and perfect international streaming since the DBN upgrades! Its JHB and Cape IPCs that are up to their tricks.

That's good to hear. I'll carry on testing then and see how it goes.

Is Axxess then also on the mtn network?

i am endlessly streaming from hulu, never ever had a hiccup, buffering etc as i did with the afrohost.

a clue may lie in the the multitude of afrohost threads & this

Afrihost is a no go for streaming.

Web africa is decent haven't tried axxes ,

Yeah, but just try streaming.

As long as I can remember AH international routing issues has made all forms of international streaming crap. Remember that most YouTube is cached locally.

Hi gents, I'm also looking for a decent account for streaming. Hopefully a prepaid account. Vox doesn't sell prepaid capped accounts. My bolt-on also sucks on streaming.

Nice. But you forgot to mention who your ISP is.

Just tested, Hulu & Twitch streaming perfectly on Afrihost here in Durban. Often use other services and they work just as well as other ISP's.

I am of the opinion that it is the capacity issues in Jhb and Cape that cause the streaming issues. Maybe their routing adds to it.

Afrihost is just fine....... if they have sufficient capacity. Lately, that has been a big IF.

Thanks for all the feedback. So far it was just the one night there were issues on Afrihost. Will test again next week.

I was looking into all this as well today, as i was using WebAfrica but the whole split data thing gets annoying.

Afrihost is really bad at streaming at the moment. But i tried Axxess as they have a free 1GB account, and i don't know why but it's actually decent at streaming.

In my personal experience in testing it today, both during the day and at 8.30pm-ish, it would stream source (10Mbps line) but did have a hiccup or two. I found refreshing the page a few times would eventually give me a solid stream.

So its not at WebAfrica performance where it just works without hassle.

But testing the Afrihost account which couldn't even do low and immediately switching to axxess and getting source on the same stream, its pretty cool considering the price.

So that's my experience, will probably be picking up a 30GB+30GB account for the coming month.
(Plus its month to month and not two month like WebAfrica)
