Hi, I'm in the market and wondering what personal experiences are so far with different ISPs' VDSL offerings w.r.t:

1. Shaping (speeds at peak/off-peak times)
2. Throttling and soft-caps (uncapped)
3. Stability
4. Price
5. Benefits, support (e.g. Mweb's FON router?)

Thank you

Openweb all the way. PM MrBeep to set up an account for you. Zoidberg is using OW for his VDSL and gets something silly like an average of 20meg.

I think it would depend on what your requirements are. If you will be downloading 24/7, or just to stream YouTube, or watch Netflix. How many GB would you be using ~?

At the moment I am using about 200 GB a month, but I'm planning to start streaming Netflix with VDSL (replacing DSTV)

I have an Afrihost 50GB just for Netflix and Hulu Plus which is generally enough provided I don't stream everything in HD. Hulu buffers now and then in HD. We use the TI account for general browsing and overnight downloads, whilst it is currently free.

Since Afrihost just doubled the allowance for March, I'll switch over to HD for the rest of the month :) especially if the VDSL order doesn't take too long to process.

Take a look at this: http://webafrica.co.za/home/adsl/ ...capped is always better than uncapped.

Or if you need uncapped, I'm currently on OpenWeb and they are great, especially since they run accounts on both IS and MTN - you can switch over if one network doesn't do. I'm sure they well do well for VDSL as well. Send [email protected] an email. My friend is with Axxess and that seems quite a stable account.

if you aren't going to be doing allot of dl's, try afrihost or axxess, the don't shape web browsing, so its ideal for streaming. Afrihost offers free 1gig, and axxess has a 3gig trial as well.

If you take a VOX VDSL Dcapped data it actually rolls over.

I didn't know Afrihost/Axxess don't shape streaming, does that include Netflix and twitch.tv? That's a big plus as I'm sure Mweb does, - my twitch.tv tabs rarely go over 200 kbps according to Netlimiter, while other browsing / http downloads do.
