Hi, fellow fibre lovers.

We are going to move sometime in the future where there are apparently already Openserv available.
I would really like if all you MyBroadband'ers that have the knowledge and experience can maybe give a man some hints into which ISP would best to look out for in relation to customer service, reliability, speed, installation, price, FUP, etc....
Their website has like 80 ISP's to choose from, by the time I get to the 4th one i already forgot what the first one offers.

Thank you if you are still reading this far.
I look forward to hearing from the experts.

This thread is pointless. Your gonna get a bunch of people saying their ISP is the best and then another group saying that exact ISP is bad.

Pick one if your not happy move on to the next (OpenServe allows you to switch accounts). Ask for trial accounts and try them all until you find one that fits your needs

Haha, but with that logic most threads are useless... glock vs sig vs cz...

To add to this, try do a google search for a looking glass server for that ISP or their transit provider. For example, websquad has https://lg.as328137.net/. Looking glass server allows you to do tracerts and ping tests from a hosted node.

You can also lookup what peering the ISP has and how they route their traffic if its available. A lot of south african isps or transit providers peer with hurricane electric and for those you will be able to find peering and routing info at https://bgp.he.net/. Here's Afrihost as an example: https://bgp.he.net/AS37611#_graph4

I'm a fan of the small guys because support is usually the best. You don't get stuck with days tickets not getting answers but with the small ISPs the issue is with capacity as they usually don't have the funds like the big guys so congestion can be an issue.

The ISP that allows payments via EFT. The one's that ONLY allow debit orders do so for a reason ;)

If you do it correctly get at least two. Two cr@appy ISPs is better than one of the best. I use Cool Ideas uncapped and have a second account using Vox. Vox had an Openserve 1TB special on Black Friday for R99. My uptime and performance is 100%
I do cheat a bit as I use an SDWAN solution that accelerates things but another consumer option is to get a ubnt edgex and flash it with openwrt 19.07.01 and then add the two PPPoE accounts. The adds on available are brilliant and outdoes most business grade routers.

Finding the best ISP is almost impossible because 'service' delivery in RSA has been redefined. For me the key is support. Everybody experience problems because not everything that relates to the service the ISP provides is within their control but how they handle it is 100% within their control. Unfortunately you can only judge service levels once you use their service. I start by looking at bang for my buck and then hope and pray I do not need support. Be wary though of signup specials, they normally require you to stick around for some time or pay a fee to get out. Afrihost for instance have some very competitive pricing but their support sucks 100%.
