Hi guys,

My line speed is currently 2Mbps and my current bandwidth is 2Mbps uncapped with Afrihost - sadly they have started to very aggressively shape my account since I upgraded from 1Mbps to 2Mbps uncapped after my line speed was upgraded. Currently, my overall internet performance has been really poor since about the end of February and to the point where it is even worse overall compared to when I was still on the 1Mbps line and uncapped! I am not a P2P hog, but there are the odd things that I do download and I am just fed-up with their obvious shaping lately (I don't mind slower speeds, but no speeds is just not on)! When I work out my overall monthly usage, it is way less than the equivalent capped account in terms of the amount of bandwidth.

So at this stage I am looking to find an ISP that will deliver what I am paying for, which is perfectly within reason.

Look forward to your advice!

Just upgrade to Business. It's not that expensive.

Thanks guys! Was actually thinking about that, but are there any limitations there? Always the fine print to worry about...

My annoyance is that since late last month I have been hardly able to do anything P2P based and even regular browsing and downloads are not always all that good, plus there is often quite significant latency.

I just think that these uncapped accounts are way overpriced when you compare them to capped accounts. Basically I see no point in these uncapped accounts as they stand right now...

I'm going to take a wild guess and say you live in the Cape?

Afrihost and Axxess are having capacity issues there.

For the same price switch to a AfriHost 75+75 capped option and all your troubles will go away.
That's if you not in Capetown :)

No limitations. Download as much as you want.

Generally the most cost efficient way is to schedule downloads. Some ISPs (e.g. OW) run flat out during witching hour. Doesn't necessarily fix the daytime problem (depending on package) but its a viable cost effective approach.

How much data do you use on a monthly basis? A capped account might be better suited to you if you dont want to worry about throttling.

Just signed up for free account, 3 questions.

I says my account is active. I don't need to send proof of ID?

I presume my account wont be Debited month end?

Why do you guys e-mail the username password tuples in plain text?

not just you guys but Afrihost do it too.

So it's easy to check if you someday forget your details. Wouldn't want it any other way.

As someone in Security, it would be just as easy to gain access to tonnes of new consumer data and compromise an entire company's credibility. A trained monkey could do that.

Another thing is it is not unusual for people to use the same password for different web services. If I'm pretty sure one of you use the same e-mail and password as you do for facebook and WA/Afrihost client zone

So there's that, but I get what you're saying.

Well then it's the clients fault, not Web Africa's.
