Best items to resell?

I'm thinking of starting a small online business (online store) but not sure what items to sell. I'm thinking of buying from China like aliexpress (will take a while to get stuff probably) but it's a start I guess.

I am able to get capital to start, I don't want to spend too much just yet. Any advice will be appreciated
 
I strongly suggest doing some research into what South Africans are searching for on Google especially when you are thinking of starting an online store.

For example: There are 720 average searches monthly for "light fittings".
and 880 average searches for "penis pumps" :whistle:
 
You can use google adwords keyword planner but I recommend investing in good keyword research software. (not sure if I can post the links) Good keyword software shows average searches for specific phrases as well as a quick analysis of the sites ranking on the first page of Google for those keywords and how easy it would be to outrank them.

I think outsourcing from China would be way cheaper than buying from here but I'm worried about the time it takes for the item to be shipped and delivered. It sometimes can take a month or more.
 
I don't know how it is know but around 2006 I used to import and wholesale mag wheels from China. A set of 17s would cost me about R1600 and 22"s would cost me about R6000 - R8000 delivered so it was definitely cheaper.

Today everybody making their millions online by selling information. Most of the time freely available information packaged as e-books, video guides etc...
No stock and distribution headaches, low cost and you can just recruit an affiliate army to do all the selling for you.
 
I do agree with you JOE, but deciding on exactly what to sell (online service) is not easy. I wouldn't mind doing something dealing with just providing online services rather than products.
 
That's why keyword research is essential for any product or service you want to sell online. Just pop in the stuff you would be interested in selling in one of the many keyword software available eg. 'catering equipment' 'security services' 'vintage furniture' etc... and you will get a good indication of how popular they are in SA or wherever. Some even show how competitive they are when it comes to advertising on google(normally a good indication of how profitable it is).
When unsure of which product or service to use, knowing the ones which are getting 1000s of monthly searches and those only getting 10 makes it a lot easier to narrow down the choices.
