Best laptop for architects

Hi guys,

My mate wants to buy a laptop for work - he is an architect - and is unsure as to what hardware to get.

I suggested a decent gaming laptop: i7-4720HQ, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, GeForce GTX 965M 2GB.

Advice from anyone in the industry would be great.

Depending on the software used - they might want to consider something with an Nvidia Quadro card (or similar workstation-class GPU ) in. If they're not doing any rendering or require-real-time rendering from their design packages - they can probably get by with a geforce card. But for rendering & displaying complex geometry - the Quadro cards make a pretty big difference. Also depends on the scale of the projects, whether they're opening 3D geometry or just 2d plan views etc.

Dell has a some fancy machines with Quadro graphics. Here's a good example:

Agree with comments suggesting Quadro.

Revit/AutoCad support it AFAIK.

All the CAD workstations, mine included, are Dell with Quadro graphics.

Check the software he uses. They normally have recommended systems that they have tested.

What everybody else said and also: will that SSD drive be big enough for all those massive CAD files?

The i7 is okay but bump up the ram to 32 or 64 Gig for Revit
