I'm needing to make a decision regarding a living annuity. Plan is to go as off-shore as possible, and as low cost as possible. Who's the best - and why?

EDIT: Right now I'm thinking Sygnia. Change my mind.

I trust Allan Gray the most but 10x and Sygnia have the best fees. I would go active rather than passive in this market.

How close did you get to your Retirement amount?

Unfortunately this isn't retirement, but death of a family member. I'm beneficiary of their living annuity so can take out a heavily taxed lump sum, or transfer it tax-free to a living annuity in my name.

My RA is with Allan Gray, so I'm thinking to go passive with this one.

If you don't need the money in the next 10 to 20 years then just do as you originally wanted.

If you are planning to bail the country then you may as well take the tax hit now and move it offshore while there is still a bear market. Put it in a S&P 500 unit trust or similar.

Is there a specific reason why you're linking Allan Gray? I like them, but from what I gather they don't allow "customised" LAs? My thinking is to go Sygnia and put as much as possible in something like MSCI World.

EDIT: No plans on leaving

You made my day. I am the only financial guru that drives a 50K car because I can.
Last I checked I still drive a 12 year old corsa lite because I can, havent filled it more than 5 times in 2.5 years. Zero reason to buy a new car. That money went straight to solar :)

I have a few million of my savings there.
I like the service and trust them, the fees aren't bad also a few other reasons like I've known some of the people who work there, some since the 80's. So if they go to shiiit, hopefully I'll have advance notice. :)

Coronation and M&G are also good.
Sygnia is not my cup of tea.

I was a beneficiary of my late mother's life insurance recently. I had the same option of a heavily taxed lump sum or tax-free into a living annuity.

I chose to take x amount in cash with minimal tax implications and the rest to a living annuity to pay an x amount directly into my RA. So I don't see any of the balance that remained. It goes straight to my RA.

Living annuity was taken out with Ninety-one through my broker at PSG.

I found this in my policy docs.

Don't have living annuity but in terms of admin interface & call centre, I found AG, 10x, coronation & Sygnia equally responsive.

In terms of EAC, from lowest to highest, it is probably like this although it would depend on product as well. I did a bit of search last year but don't have results to back this so take it with a pinch of salt.
Sygnia

Coronation

I see i managed to grow by 5% in the first month the living annuity was created.
I also noticed now that my monthly payout of the living annuity is going to my bank ACC and not direct to my RA as was instructred. Thanks to this thread i would not have picked it up.

What would be your hesitancy with Sygnia?
