Best low-cost/low-usage 3G option?

What's the cheapest low-usage (100MB/month) 3G option available from Vodacom?

I'm looking at the Huawei E220 (3.6Mb -> futureproof; USB -> desktop) and quite happy with a 24 month contract if it works out cheaper than buying the modem outright (+-R2500 if I'm not mistaken). I'd prefer to keep it simple (so no 3G phone via bluetooth...)

I imagine it's available for R350pm (500MB) x 24 months - but that's just a bit much.

Prepaid data is not available yet, is it? Is there a lost-cost contract I can bolt a data bundle onto?

I've researched all the MTN options (which are currently looking better, BTW) but I can't seem to find a suitable VC option.
 
try Vodacom 4U contract (no fixed monthly minimum) plus 250MB data bundle at R160 per month. You could switch the data bundle from one month to the next. This is based on what other forum members have said - I only have 4U contract and am very happy that way!
 
Thanks Johnit, I hadn't considered the 4U contract, which is basically a way of getting prepaid data on VC. Only catch is, you'd have to buy the modem outright...

So then it would be a choice between:
    • MTN 100MB for R100 (R1/R1.50 per MB in/out of bundle)
    • VC 75MB for R110 (R1.47/R2 per MB in/out of bundle)
    • VC 150MB for R149 (R0.99/R2 per MB in/out of bundle)

It might be possible to get the modem free/reduced on a TopUp75/135 - but does anyone know whether the base value can be used for buying a bundle?

No you can't - you can't load bundles at all onto that package.... :(

The TopUp works on the PrePaid billing backend - so you can only load PPDB's onto a TopUp contract.... and since VC has still not launched them you outa luck
 
Thanks for that info, I didn't think the base value could be used, but I had no idea that you couldn't add a bundle onto a TopUp contract - that sucks!

I guess MTN it is. Especially now that the 100MB bundle is just R80.
 
Check (with a pre-paid and a friend's modem) who of MTN and VC has the best 3G signal where you want to use the modem before committing to a 24 months contract.

The coverage maps are not reliable.
 
Thanks, I've checked with my E620 and get 5 bars HSDPA on MTN... (I think VC is about the same)
 
A good option can be the MTN 350MB with datacard option at R250 per month.
