I have been using iTunes for a long time and I want to find out is there are alternatives. I really like the layout of iTunes and the Genius functionality is actually quite good.

Is there anything else that you would recommend as an alternative?

Give Winamp a try.

It's not that great for sorting and renaming at all. For that there are many other applications...

If you have the time to edit and customize, foobar2000 is the most customizable of media players i have used. with lots of addons, you can pretty much create the music player however you want it to look..Worth a try, but takes a bit of effort to get what you want.

You may shout and think WTF is this wrong with this noob, but i use Windows Media Player 12 for my .Mp3 files. Why you may ask, I find the quality to be so much better compared to VLC.

Try it out, play the same music file on Itunes and on WMP to compare, but ensure [under enhancements (right click on the now playing window that shows a visualization) enable SRS WOW Effect and set them both to 50%]

For FLAC i use VLC.

I have a very large collection so I need something that will handle that fast.

I use windows media player because I am lazy.

But how exactly is this related to hardware?

Music has become far to much hassle for me, partly because my collection is so large but it just seems that we get flooded with new music all the time!

Generally use winamp or iTunes...

Try use Winamp with the DFX addon. now that what i call quality. by far the best music app i use and have used. i just love Winamp. VLC for some reason sounds horrible when you use it for Mp3. VLC is best for video imo.
