Best new Android phone and why.... :P

As the title states i'm curious to know everyone's thoughts. Some are all for the Galaxy Nexus, some for the SG2, some for HTC and others for the new Motorolas or even the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc..

So now, what would you choose and why?

I have an upgrade due for 20th Jan so ya, let's see what your thoughts are.

btw - I have a BB torch 9800 currently (fantastic phone) as well as an Ipad... I need the phone specifically for an Android app (Spiceworks) and possibly for everyday use, if it's better than my BB for any reason.

Hmmm 20th of Jan.....

At the rate new phones are coming out I would say wait till its time to renew before you decide. Cause the Nexus and RAZR's of today could be the old crap of tomorrow. Esp looking at expected phones like a quad core ASUS Padphone that may be released early next year.

I am in the same boat as you (End of Jan is time for me to renew) and I am leaning towards the RAZR so far simply because of the design and the fact that its life proof(Can drop in water)

Why do you say that as I have seen plenty of Youtube vids shoing this off.

Because I think we all know what a biets lady fate can be! Why tempt her!?

Watch the youtube vids with pleasure....but I see no reason to put it to the test with your own phone that has a retail price of about R7000.00. :D

Ok, that's only being released early 2012, which means SA will get that towards the end of the year... which means, I have another contract due for upgrade then (i have 5 so it's fun... ) so i will wait for that...

In the meantime though, starting a new job 1st Feb, need an Android phone, can't decide... ;)

edit: and... i wouldn't go and purposefully pour water onto the RAZR just to be cool, however, if it is water-resistant like that, then I don't have to be so paranoid about it getting wet from the rain, splashes, etc.

Whilst I love SE since getting my Neo the Arc/S doesn't really have the right to stand with the SGS2, RAZR and Sensation/XE or Galaxy Nexus. So your choice should be between those.
 
Galaxy Nexus. Pure android - best there is! First to get official upgrades as well, and the 720p screen is drool-worthy!
 
First to get official updates but the old Nexus phones also used to use more data since they served as Google's testbed and thus sent feedback on how Android was performing constantly quickly driving up the data use.
 
Get a cheap android phone. That way you don't have to carefully handle it like a piece of volatile TNT, and when something happens to it, you laugh it off and get another one.

And suffer all the bugs that come with it, as seen in the recent saga. Thanx, but no thanx

Besides, if I want to be up to date I can always run a custom rom. You pick an Android phone by the body, software can be changed, hardware can not.
 
I had to upgrade a week or so ago and had the S2 in my hand....it is so BIG. And considering that I already have an iPad I went with the smaller SE Xperia Ray... love it. Awesome little phone :)

Owner of a Sony Ericsson Xperia Play and I like the hardware but the SE version of Android sucs, My DHD and Play has the exact same CPU yet the play lag like its nobody's business with stock OS.

Then again if I get another Sony it will be the SE Active

What makes you think I recently lost a phone due to water damage?

Note to self: When you go surfing make sure your phone is in a separate compartment to the wetsuit when you change.

Galaxy Note, if you can pocket it. The large screen is the closest you'll come to on a full touch screen phone for BlackBerry comparable typing. It's almost as comfortable as my Bold 9000 and that's saying a lot.

Who still types? Swipe is soooooooo much better/faster and with Custom keyboards like Slide IT and Touchpal there is just no way I could ever go back to pecking on a actual keyboard.
 
Tried them and hate them all, if you type a lot on your phone then the inaccuracy of those apps and the irritation of having to use autocorrection for short words makes those swiping apps a waste of time. I use SwiftKey and I'm way, way faster than I could ever be with swype (and I did try swype for 6 months). Throw in a screen that's large enough to accurately hit the keys like the Note and you have something that comes very close to the Bold series for comfort of typing.

Back to the original question I'd guess the obvious answer, in terms of specs and reviews, is the Galaxy S2. Personally though I love HTC Sense, which adds the Sensation into the mix. I wanted a slightly smaller phone so decided to go for the Desire S and am really happy with it, so I suppose personal preference plays a role too.

Thanks for this ^^ - I love the HTC as well, the S2 just doesn't do it for me, but it is powerful... mmmm
