I've been looking around for a while, But i was wondering. In all your best experience, which would be the best router for me to get?
And plz, no one suggest the marconi one...

agreed, linsys works for me. Do you want a router, or router with adsl modem. If you only want a router get the wrt54g.

router with a modem... A friend suggested the d-link dsl 504t. But i've read a few bad reports about it...
Preferably not a wireless one though, as I don't really want to make to many changes to my systems...

I'm using a D-Link DSL-G604T, wireless router with DSL modem. I'm a networking n00b, and set it up in 5 minutes. So far it works perfectly.

If you just need a W/router everyone seems to vote for the linksys wrt54g.

hmmmm I don't need the wireless access points, so a standard wired modem/router combo is fine...

I have a DSL-504T since my DG834 got fried, and have no complaints. I actually had a lot of hassle with the Netgear rebooting (the new smaller v2 model, the old 834 at the office has worked perfectly since day 1).

One advantage over the Netgear is that it supports bridge mode, while I still prefer the Netgear's web-interface (just personal choice).

SmoothWall (http://smoothwall.org) on a Pentuim or something with some random ethernet router.... I am using such a setup and at least the marconi router is stable now (no resetting it at least twice daily).

If you don't have an extra PC laying aound try for a router with a firewall and decent config interface. (D-Link, netgear, linksys are recommended by most users (I don't know them very well)).

mmmm, i have heard some people like it. But some people complain of troubles with the port-forwading...

Port forwarding works fine for me (bittorrent, edonkey mainly). The interface is a bit sucky though, took me a few minutes to figure out. Luckily it's only something you have to do once...

Didn't try port-forwarding yet. (The settings exist but didn't test them) DistroWatch has a list of firewall / router distros on the site. IPCop appears very similiar to smoothwall. Devil-Linux also look promising (I am experimenting with it on a VM at the moment. It is harder to configure but has much more features)
