I drastically need advice in choosing a speed as well as an ISP for my ADSL needs.

My needs is as follows:
Moderate surfing
Weekly Upgrades (Linux User)
Occasional p2p and gaming

I have no idea in what usage class I would fall.

I tried the wireless route, but that did not work.

Currently I'm back on dail-up.

Any advice would be welcome.

BTW. I live in Brackenfell, Cape Town

Adsl

ADSL 384 with unshaped Verizon R99 per 1gb... just IMO.
Speak to Alan at Vanilla - www.vanilla.co.za (they are based in CT)
month to month accounts with options to burst to higher bandwidths throughout the month if required.

I've been looking at Helkom's ISP price-list and Cybersmart looks like the cheapest. Can anyone comment on thier service?

OMG - I think i might know this Alan guy. I knew the owner of that domain and his name was Alan and he used it for exaclty what it says, 'vanilla'. But now i see its internet services.

Oh, and he's a pom.

Onepostwonder, can you clarify this?

I've been with Cybersmart for 3 months and had no problems.
There have been a couple of times that something was down (like an e-mail server) but they fix things fast. The other times it was Telkom infrastructure (like ESRs down).
Speed is fine too (maxes out line) on local and international.

Lol

I've been with Cybersmart for about 3 months now and had no problems (except once right at the beginning, but that’s sorted quickly). I use a 3Gb Cybersmart account for normal browsing and a 30Gb Local only account from Openweb for my torrents and local browsing. And I'm very happy with both of them.

I also have an @lantic 1 Gig account for backup...just incase:p

I am with Openweb and their service is brilliant!

I also have a TelkomInternet account which is ok considering from where it comes.
