Best PC Build for R10k

Hi all,

I need some advice regarding putting an new PC build together, got a GTX 1070Ti from a friend and have around R 10k to spend on the rest including a monitor but excluding keyboard, mouse and headset.

It seems AMD is the way to go, but not sure whether I should go Ryzen 3 or Ryzen 5 etc. Any build suggestions would be highly appreciated to compliment the 1070TI I got.

Also, with regards to monitor, is it best to go 24" 144Hz FreeSync or 27" 60Hz? They seems to be on price parity. Thanks.
 
What would you be doing with this PC..? Gaming, photo/video editing, CAD work..?

Will you be reusing an existing chassis for this build..?

Not taking the above into account, I am going to say Ryzen 5 3600 based platform..

Mainly a gaming rig, don't have any existing chassis. Basically I only have a 1070Ti, Keyboard, Mouse and Headset.

I doubt your budget will stretch that far but I'll get back to you later.

The case is just a placeholder, pick one that tickles your fancy with decent airflow. The PSU has ketchup&mustard cables, the aesthetics might bother some so pick a different one at higher price if it's an issue.

They both support freesync, the aoc is curved, has a higher contrast ratio and also a year extra warranty. Any of the above monitors will come in below your stretched R13k system budget.
 
Thanks @ponder, not worried about aesthetics. I don't no AOC that well, Dell although one year less warranty seem to have better support.

Do you think a 24" 144Hz freesync monitor is a better option than a 27" 60Hz non-freesync monitor?

Also, interesting how Wootware and Rebeltech are split on pricing on certain items, does anyone know whether Wootware would match the Rebeltech pricing on some items?

Nothing wrong with aoc and wootware will sort out any warranty issues should they arise.

Yes, would take the 24" 144Hz over a 27" 60Hz any day of the week.

Damn I paid R10k for a 2600 with similar spec in Mar.
 
If you're buying now you can score R150 off the ssd using the eat a lot code.

Also, I bought that gigabyte ssd for R489 on take a lot over the weekend. I see the price went up. In fact I bought 6 of them over the last month at R489 minus the R150 using the R150 off

I'm in the same boat as the OP, this is great thanks @ponder!

I don't have GPU, which would you recommend?

Haven't built a desktop since 2009, this is exciting again and lots of reading to do :)

Resolution will be 1920x1080, already got a screen. I'm not looking at high-end gaming, something to do with a desktop similar to what you posted, let's say R2000 to R2,500 range for the GPU.

You can get an RX570 for just under R2000 from Evetech

You can get a new 4GB RX470 in that range. Used 8GB RX580 or 6GB GTX1060 on Carbonite, if you stretch budget a bit more then 1070.

Agreed I got a 4GB RX580 off of Carbonite for R1300 for my sons PC and that card is still pretty good, stretch to a 8GB and you should be golden.
