I googled for this and got a pretty good idea what is good and whats no brainers.

Its 2011 now and so far is nfs shift the best choice out there.I do play grand turismo 5 but i really need a pc type game like this.
At the moment i am playing toca race driver 3,what do you think of this game.
There are so many car games out there but no real driver simulators.Whats your craigs list:D

Hi

I haven't tried Shift 2 (yet) but these are other games that I'm familiar with:

Grand Prix Legends

rFactor

Richard Burns Rally

SIMBIN games:
GT Legends
GTR
GTR2

SIMBIN also has quite a few more that I haven't tried yet.

F1 2011 is pretty cool but only if you're a die-hard F1 fan. The thing I liked about it is that you can't just jump into the best car and go. You start in the lower teams and have to do well in order to get noticed by the top teams for future seasons. The racing is fun and the tracks are beautifully detailed (just hope that you don't race at Monaco in the wet like I did!)

I agree with these, particularly RBR and GPL :D

Live for Speed is also a great sim, and lots of fun online

Depends what kind of sim you want. Shift 2 is great, but lacks some 'hardcore' sim stuff like qualifying and pits. It's just straight up racing, but if you're fine with that then IMO it's the best race sim you can get.
For a pure hardcore sim experience there's iRacing. It's a subscription online-only game. For the 'hardcore-ness' there are sacrifices. Graphics are nice but basic, no fancy effects that put the latest hardware to use.

GTR 2, rFactor and simbin games are nice sims but dated. Simbin is still making addons to Race 07, but that doesn't change the fact that the game is dated and like a cut-down version of GTR2. Still a good sim though, Simbin does a great job with car handling.

from what i gather shift 2 is about the only choice i have.

How about G.R.i.D? It features quite a bit of different race styles, it's not that hardcore but the handling is insane and the cars you get are insane. It's also a bit dated though but it's still got an edge on other games. If you enjoy rally then Dirt 1 and 2 is extremely fun and fascinating, specially with dirt3 on its way.

Here's a list of some interesting new ones coming out or are already available:
1. Test Drive unlimited 2
2. rFactor 2
3. iRacing
4. WRC 2010
5. NASCAR the game 2011
6. Real world racing 2011
7. Fireburst

Racing sims....Only one developer to speak of and that is Simbin...

They make the best racing sims i.m.o.

As a matter of interest...Although GTR2 is dated as well as the others there is a very big online community for GTR2 as well as rFactor and one hell of a lot of add-ons and tracks for these games...

The question is what are you looking for..Picture pretty or realistic fun...

I still find GTR2 to be the best racing sim. Old GP4 also brilliant but does not like some modern hardware :-(
