I wasn't saying C# wasn't popular - it's popular on linux too with mono. I'm not sure that there are any leading languages as such - just different tools for different jobs.
All I'm saying is python is a good choice too.
Python may be good to get up and running, but it fails to teach fundamentals that will prove vital (adding an extra step to the migration process) when moving "up" to more conventional (and ubiquitous) languages.
