I am thinking about getting a PS3
Is there any where that i can get a list of specials / best prices for one.

Thanks

I got mine from my local Incredible Connection (Woodmead)

PS3 40gig
2 Games (Fifa 08 + Ratchet & Clank)
2 Controllers

R3500 total.

It was brand new, sometimes a little shopping around in person and talking to the manager etc goes a long way

40GB? I thought they discontinued those a while ago? Where was this....cos thats a great deal. Wouldnt mind picking one up at that price as Im looking too

I'm buying a Full HD LCD soon, and will go the PS3 route in stead of a stand-alone blu-ray player.

I currently have a PS2, and some games. Now I have heard some contradicting stories when it comes to backwards compatibility, etc...

Which PS3s can play PS2 games? the 40, 60 or 80GB?

I have heard things like "the one with four USB ports", but seeing that I don't have one, I wont know what amount of ports etc....

As I rarely play any games, except guitar hero 3 on my ps2, i can buy the 40GB and be ahppy t get a blu-ray player.... or I can get one that's backwards compatible, and still play guitar hero 3!!!! then my question would be..... will my ps2 guitar work on the PS3???????????????

The PS3 models with backwards compatibility are discontinued so it would be best to keep your PS2 unless you want to buy the older 60GB PS3 secondhand.

P.S. I worked with someone a few years ago with the nick TBlaar...hmmm

Ya, unfortunately none of the new models support PS2 anymore so you would have to shop around for one of the earlier models.

Other than that go for the model which you can get the cheapest. Hard drives are fully replaceable with any size hard drive you like so dont pay thousands to get a 160gb instead of an 80gb when you can put in a 500gb or even 1Tb drive for the same price.

Sorry!

They were discontinued a while ago, thats probably why I was able to get such a good deal. I DID mention in the first post that it was at Incredible Connection in Woodmead which is JHB. Got it about a month or two back. They had a room filled with PS3 boxes that looked like **** which were aparently the unsold stock from the surrounding stores. Some were demo models, some said things like "faulty" or "badly scratched" on the box. But mine was fully sealed, shiny and brand new.

They did want more for it but after speaking to/annoying/pleading with the manager I got the deal above.

Good luck

You only get 80GB models in stores nowadays. 160GB models are on their way.

40GB and 60GB models are the discontinued ones. The 60GB model is the backwards compatible unit. These 2 models is what I get in on a bi-weekly basis for repairs!

One of my international suppliers stock sealed 40GB PS3 consoles for R4200 excluding shipping, to give you a rough idea of the price bracket.
