Ok, so it's tiny cars but if you have a chance watch Episode 4 of James May's Toy Stories (BBC Knowledge channel) where they build a 4.43 km Scalectrix track on the old Brooklands banked track. This also broke a Guinness world record.

Felt like a kid watching it :D

You can also watch it on Youtube or download it via torrents/news servers ;)

That was a pretty wicked setup.

I thought it was pathetic that there were no volunteers jumping into the lake to free the stuck Aston though...

The least they could have done (the team) was to be ready and waiting in the boat?

I didn't see the cameras on the cars, so htF did they do that insane 'in car' filming?

I'm wondering exactly the same thing.

First I thought they were just moving a camera across the track until there was a leaf stuck on the car which you saw from inside & outside.

Edit: Just googled a bit and it looks like you get micro wireless cams for this, http://www.4kam.com/mini_wireless_video_camera.htm
Also lots of videos on Youtube, things sure have progressed since my childhood :D

The whole series is awesome - the first one he builds a life-sized airfix spitfire model - that made me go out and buy airfix model planes to build!

For those, who like me, gave DSTV the middle finger....here is some of it on yootjoep

I have stacked away about 3 apple boxes of tracks and a bunch of cars from 10 years ago when I had a collecting frenzy. Really should fill the house with tracks and pi ss the wife off again......lol
