Best RAM for my rig

About a year ago I bought a new rig which has GA-P55-UD3P motherboard, Intel I7 860 and 4GB of Transcend memory. I posted a thread some time back (i'll try find it) about the system not running very stabily when the memory was at 1333, only at 1066 (which I'm current using now). My birthday is coming up and I am wondering if buying new RAM which did run at 1333 or higher would be that much of a benefit on the overall performance of the system? I'm running Windows 7 x64. Would 8GB make that much of a difference? (seeing as that is what I would have to goto in order to use all slots)
 
I suspect you'll get a 5% boost (guesstimate), mainly from the 1066->1333. I'd go for an SSD/GFX/Accessory first tbh.

Depends entirely on what your doing with it. 4->6 you might still feel, 6->8 only if you have a specific need (video processing/whatever).

Whatever you do, don't add 4gb of 1333 to the existing ram...thats just worst of both worlds. i.e. You must buy 8gb 1333.

Yeah if I kept the same RAM and just added more I'd have the same problem. I'll have a look at the SSD option though, thanks.
 
You will not notice/perceive the increased in speed in day to day apps like browsing and even games for that matter.. Only in benchmarks really..
What do you use your rig for? If you are making use of the full 4GB then yes get more, but I'd do what havoc suggested get better GPU or an SSD..

More memory is always good. Put in performance memory. Check your manual or the Gigabyte website for recommended ram.
 
For browsing, an SSD would be your best bet considering you already have 4Gb or ram.
 
So there isn't much performance difference between the 1066 and 1333 clockspeeds? What's a good SSD to go for?
 
Nope, RAM speed wont give your tasks any noticeable performance increase. As for a SSD, I would strongly recommend waiting. Intel should be releasing its third gen SSD in Q4. So basically same price, same speed, but double the capacity of its gen 2 SSDs. But if you really want one now you cant go wrong with the Intel or OCZ ones. Here is a good palce to start looking. You just need to find local prices. I would try get the largest SSD as first priority since your apps wont need the speed anyway.
 
Ya i've decided to wait till I can afford atleast a ~250gig drive so I can put basically all my docs, apps and games on it..
