Best shopping cart.

I am looking at opening an online store selling clothing. What would be the best shopping cart to use - the shopping cart must have full support for credit cards and EFT's.

I'm not looking for anything that is free, unless it has better functionality.

So far I have found shopdirect.co.za, are there any other?
 
May I ask why you do not want something that is free / opensource? They are much more flexible and most of the more popular ones have a proven track record for security and updates.
 
Free versions are HECTIC to manage and get running if you have no experience. It's a painful trial and error process. Believe me, I've installed my shop over a 100 times, and it's still no where near perfect.

I checked out the ShopDirect guys. They've done over 400 shops. They're the best in SA. But their pricing was a bit intense for a new business owner.

Long story short. It took me a year or so installing all of the opensource versions out there to finally get a working shop. Figuring out all the modules, add ons etc took time.

If you've got no PHP programming skills. Go for a bought solution if you've got some time and money. Else hire a PHP techie. Not sure which'll be cheaper :)

I'm still struggling along myself. (Got no webdesign or programming backround either).

Pc Direct said it all, my personal experiences with open source hasn't been that great. Almost all programmers/techies will tell you that open source is better, but for someone with very little web/coding experience like me a paid for version will always be better.

This is why I've started this thread, to find out which one will be best.

I have to agree with you.

I'm a massive fan of OSS and have played around wth numerous php e-commerce systems, all of which are either incredibly hard to customize, have some stupid markup language to template or have a ridiculous confusing frontend to manage the shop. Unless you have some decent php experience or the time to learn how the system or API of that shopping system works, you're gonna fall short.

I'd recommend spending money on a developer who can completely customise, style and set up a system for you, whether that system is a paid solution or even an open-source solution.

i can set you up with a pretty good one, problem is it costs big bucks,
