It just seems to be missing a lot of the ingredients I associate with split pea soup.

I don't do pork or prawns Sammy....I'm Jewish...... but there will be fillet and Norwegian Salmon.

Butternut soup is easy and yum.

Yup. Checkers even sells the "kits". I suppose from start to finish it can take up to an hour, but only 15 min of that is actual work.
Add a large dash of cream on top before serving (without stirring it in), sprinkle some black pepper over and it will look all fancy as well.

Where's the rest of the ingredients? That's just an average base for a proper soup.

Why did you tell your guests what the menu is before you've confirmed where you'd get the soup from?

Just tell them "surprise" and give them each an apple or something healthy as a starter instead.
