best speakers?

I have no idea, but the Logitech Z-2300 looks decent.
But from your user name you are probably a gamer? So you would probably want 5.1 speakers... then you can look at something like the Logitech X-540 5.1 Speakers.

BTW
Z-2300 > X-540 in terms of sound from what I read.

Basically choose from the options listed above. Just choose 2.1 or 5.1.

What are the best pc speakers for about R1300?

I own the Logitech Z-2300's. Extremely good speakers, the best I ever had, but a bit pricy, between R1500 and R2000, but well worth the price.

One of my speakers got faulty and Logitech replaced them without even asking me to send mine in. They just delivered a new set in front of my door, amazing service!

+1 and Thx certified as well.

Hope you guys are right :P . According to some reviews, It lacks midrange ?

Getting my set on Tuesday. Replacing my altec Lansing GT5051R, Lacks the thump..

Currently on onboard ALC889a audio.

Very hard to find a perfect full-range speaker set. Thing is you have to ask yourself if you're going to notice the dip in midrange.

YAY z2300's you WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!!!

They are simply AMAZING serious.

OK fetched them today...

Unplugged my Altec's...

1st impressions. Lack of treble, boomy bass.

After a few min of tweaking on the winamp EQ they sound great, however the bass is not as tight at the altecs but still plentiful.

Will break them in slowly before i push them.

Not surprised on lack of mid and high range and boomy bass. Just look at the size of the sub in relation to the single-cone 2.5" little satellites. But with just about any audio there's going to have to be some fiddling around with EQ settings and volume.

Let them break in for a bit and maybe the bass will mellow out a bit and the highs might improve.

Just as a matter of interest surely your onboard sound is not all that great compared to a high end sound card? Could the problem lie with your onboard sound perhaps?

Modern onboards are quite good. A discrete is even better. However, as good as the source can be, if the amp'd output can play what it's been sent then you're not going to fix the problem.

The EQ has sorted it out, so problem solved. :)

Can't fix all sound characteristics with just a sound card change. It's down to things like crossovers on the amp along with that on the sound card, and all that stuff.

True, but the onboard actually sounds pretty good thru my Philips SHP2700 headphones...

I think the z2300 sub has too high of a cross over point which accounts for most of the boom ?

I am keen on Asus Xonar DS thou :).. Maybe next month hehe

:) I have an external Xonar USB sound card I used to run at home and at the office on my headphones. I used to keep flipping the EQ around between tracks, etc. Eventually I ditched it, flattened the EQ and ran the thing through a portable amp I have. There's just too many little things in Windows interfering with sound. Too many different volume settings, etc.

I'm definitely after a ZeroDAC in the near future. Better bloody do it before the kid arrives too or I'll never get one like ever! :( :D
