I would love to here advise on the best route to follow for my internet connection, I am spending way too much on dial up and the logical route is ADSL,,, but have the following questions,,what is the true speed, what about contention rate issues is it worth it to be on 512 opposed to 384 or should i just avoid Telkom altogether and go mobile,, 3G i burst sentek etc
Thanks

There aren't many complaints about the speed of ADSL (mostly complaints about the cap and price), most people get close to full speed. Rather go for the 384 and save yourself the hundred bucks as for the most part you will not notice the speed difference.

AlT, believe me, ADSL is bad in terms of prices and caps, but there is nothing better in South Africa. So I guess you have no choice but to go for it, unless you want to stick with you dial-up modem/ISDN or have no internet at all ...

Also I believe that once the ADSL market gets reasonably big the prices will fall further very quickly, while with crap like iBurst you will be paying at R200 per GB for the rest of your life :-)

Im in modderfontein,, i have checked and I am compliant for ADSL, I spoke to a telkom person today and mentioned my concerns about contention and time waiting for instalation,,they thought I was completely mad and reckon 2 to 3 weeks max. Also there view is that from August the prices are very reasonable. I think the employees are brainwashed

try dsl 192 and move your way up, its free to upgrade but not to downgrade! on dsl 192 you will consistantly get download speed of 20kB/s. Not bad for R270/month
