Hi All

SO I have my PS4 standing on a table with a glass center piece. I am probably just being too paranoid, but I tend to look after my things properly, to ensure they last long, so here is my question.

What is the best surface to operate the console on? I had it on a solid wood surface before, but the table is more practical. I have noticed last night though that the glass at the exhaust en got very hot, and the console sends slight vibration into the glass, as it is not fastened to the table, therefore sending slight vibration into the table.

Pics below, should I put it on a different surface instead?

Thanks. I do not care too much about the surface, as long as the PS4 can run on it optimally. The heat on the glass that it was standing on just felt excessive. It was only on a part of the glass though.

Come to think of it what i would actually do is put a thick book under the PS4 but the edge of the book must be inline with the back of the PS4.

Or just move the PS4 to the back of the table...

Glass is a pretty bad conductor of heat, and a book is even worse. I would suggest getting an aluminium notebook cooler if you're concerned about the heat, since it looks like a number of folks have used them with some success, but you'd probably want one that is horizontal, and not angled like most of them.

I dont think you understand what im getting at, the heat is blown out the back of the PS4 onto the table which is causing it to get hot, so if you raise the console it wont make the table hot, refer to picture.

Well, I am not that concerned that there is need for Aluminium, but I am just worried that a glass surface is worse than wood.

@Rickster, I have thought of doing something like that, but I do not think it is just the exhaust, but also the bottom of the console, only a small piece, which I am assuming is where the PSU is located.

The rest of the console is cool, I just don't want to do damage by placing it on a glass surface.

The book will act more as an insulator underneath the PS4, possibly causing it to get hotter than aiding cooling. The hot air exhaust will will have very little effect whether the console is placed on a book or not.

You need a bit of airflow underneath the console, so a perfectly flat surface like glass is ideal, as the raised feet allow air to flow underneath the console.

so, basically the same as a flat wooden surface?

Yeag my ps4 gets hot but only at the back which would suggest good airflow right?

I'm pretty impressed with the PS4's power.... When playing BF4 it records video and you can jump into the main menu instantly with no delay whatsoever..... Very impressive

well, do you mean only at the exhaust, or at the bottom of the ps4 as well, at the back?

I am also impressed with it, and I think for the most part, it runs relatively cool, except for that one back spot, which could possibly be the PSU.

Yes just at the exhaust... I left it on whole night downloading and uploading vidz and this morning it was slightly warmer than usual but not hot

well, I played it for about 6 hours straight yesterday, and there did not seem to be an issue. I am just paranoid I suppose, I will get over it lol.

lol paranoid . i have two little glass cups under my ps3 , its about 3cm in the air. fully stable . always keep the ps3 or ps4 from the surface so that the motherboard doesnt heat up as much . keep any vents open

Mine is resting on a reclaimed wooden pallet. Most of the heat seems to be dispursted through the rear. I don't know if I'd put it on glass though.

Little derail- just came from xbox to PS, I have NFSD Rivals and BF4 at the moment, looking to make some new local friends to jam with: iShootPe0ple_ :)

it seems that it is only the PSU unit getting very hot. I also switched from xbox, MS is not getting my money again.
