I am looking to get a tall boy surround sound system for my PS3 but not sure which 1 is the best? Looking at the samsung 1000W 1 for R3400 or the Phillips 1000W speaker system for the same price.

Don't bother with most of these all-in-one systems. You'll want a receiver that does HDMI repeating, so you can carry video and audio on a single HDMI cable. I'd recommend the Pioneer VSX-519V-K, it's a good entry level receiver at about R3k. Then build your system up over a few months, starting with the floor standing stereo speakers, moving on to the centre and surround speakers, and finally the sub last.

You'll be much happier later on when you realise that your system should be able to handle whatever you throw at it, rather than forking over for an all-in-one package now and later realising that it can't.

Agreed fully. For the money it cannot easily be beat. Great gaming sound, good thunders/explosians via the two subs.

Have a look at these as they all have HDMI:

For the PS3 slim you would want HDMI repeating (All depends on the budget of course)

That excludes the SONY DDW5000/DDW5500 but they for LCPM via optical link from PS3 just fine

SONY DDW7500 do HDMI repeating.

Those all do HDMI pass-through, i.e. they just forward the video to the TV. If you want surround sound, you'll have to use an optical cable in addition to it.

HDMI repeating allows the receiver to split the video and audio - it forwards the video to the TV, and processes the audio itself. You'll need two HDMI cables - one from the PS3 to the receiver, and one from the receiver to the TV. For receivers that only do pass-through, you'll also need an optical cable from the PS3 to the receiver in addition to this.

This becomes an issue as you add more multimedia devices to your system, for example media players such as the Mede8or. You'll quickly find yourself running out of optical ports for surround sound.

But the PS3 only does everything:D

As I said the Sony DDW7500 does HDMI repeating with great Game sound if money is not an issue.

Wow thanx guys I am not using a tv but a Full HD computer screen which leaves me only the Optical audio to use

Let me rephrase my question I am looking for something decent that will be good enough to use in a 9m2 room. That will great by connecting it with a fibre audio cable to a ps3 system dont have the huge money right now to get the 7.2 system

What is the budget? It is difficult to give advise without any indication as the budget must be able to meet with the expectations.

If you are using the optical then there is the 5.2/6.2 Sony systems at Game/Makro normally going for +-R6000.00 If that is beyond the budget then look at the smaller all in one systems with HDMI and optical.

Then try HiFi corp, extreme sound, cats, game, Makro ....
