Hi Guys,

Need advice on a tablet. From the reviews it seems the Nvidia K1 shield is a winner. I am also considering the ipad mini 2 but would prefer a larger device. Any suggestions? I am looking so spend under R5k.

From the reviews it seems the Galaxy Tab A is a bit disappointing but would be interested to hear from people who have it.

The other good deal atm is the Ipad Air but it seems like there is very limited stock. Also due to the device being older I worry that it isn't future proof

Tablets are a dying device, no real upgrades in about a year or so. This is mainly because phablets are taking over. The Nvidia K1 is pretty good from reviews. I'm still using my Xperia Tablet Z from 2013, it just keeps going and going

That is not true. Only reason they appear to be dying is because people use them longer than phones. The manufacturers are not getting the turnover, so they stop supporting the devices, and don't bring out new ones. App devs also follow this path and you end up with really crappy apps.

So the OEMs aren't churning them out, what do we replace the old ones with? Apps aren't being developed, tablets aren't a high priority to oems so how are they not dying?

iPad air if you can find one will still be supported for quite a while and in my opinion will be a very good buy. My iPad 4 is still going strong and will also still get the new iOS 10 later in the year just as the newer iPads.

Yes the ipad air is ideal and within budget. Incredible had a great deal earlier in the week. But it seems hard to find stock. I wonder if anyone will match the price from incredible

You'll probably only get the 16GB version. If that's the case I would look for something else, except if you're happy with the cloud or you'll mostly use it at home with a NAS. I don't like tablets, I like a laptop and smartphone (Note 3) combo more.
