So as the title states, where is the best place to open a TFSA using ETF's as the underlying investment? Currently I chose ETFSA but have been looking at EasyEquities and they seem great as well?

Anyone that has used both perhaps that can comment on this?

Also, is it possible to transfer a TFSA to another company at the moment?

Didn't we have this thread last week?

You'll be able to transfer come November if Treasury is to be believed.

Never used ETFSA because of the ridiculous amount of paperwork. Currently at EasyEquities and will promote it to ABSA when transfers are allowed.

Why, are you unhappy with EE?

Not really. I don't like the layout and ABSA's platform gives me more control. EasyEquities gives me value orders and fractional shares though so that's a plus for them.

Ah, well I invested with ETFSA and the paper work was really one form to fill out with FICA info, which any other company does. Very easy process.

The nice thing with EE is that if you have R200 spare lying around and want to invest it, you can. Getting money into EE is super quick and easy, and makes lower amounts investable. I've tested - EFT deposit reflects in 5min.

I'm not really using EE at this stage, but I liked the idea of choosing between going out to dinner, buy some worthless gadget - or just transfer the cash quickly and buy an ETF. (before you change your mind :) )

Couple of years ago I was faced with 10+ pages :wtf:

Sorry to say but, etfsa is a rip off. 1% per annum admin fee.

EasyEquities and ABSA don't have monthly or yearly fees.

On the note of EE....i've been wanting to open some sort of online brokerage account. Is EE the way to go? Also, can someone tell me if EE will allow me to invest in American-registered ETF's?

Long story, short ...i'm an American expat and for annoying American tax reasons I can't really invest in 'foreign' (read, non American registered) companies. I can invest in an American-registered ETF that invests in South African funds though.

Maybe I need to start a new thread though...

Does anyone know what the performance of the EE TFSA's are? There are many ETF's in which they invest in their 4 TFSA accounts but I don't see an overall performance figure and to calculate it myself is just too tedious because of the awkward split?

Huh? If you look at what you are investing in then you invest in ETF's through the TFSA, so that means your investment is made up of many ETF's as per their website. So I want to know where you can see the performance of that "basket" of ETF's they invest in.

So look at this page https://www.easyequities.co.za/Bundle/Details/36, if you scroll down you will see the % of your money that goes into each ETF listed there, they each have a performance figure since inception, over the last 1 year, 3 years, 5 years etc. What is that average performance value for the entire thing? Can you see that somewhere? Because everyone always goes on about saving 0.5% in fees but no one ever takes performance into consideration...

There is no point in saving 0.5% in fees but the performance difference between two ETF's are like 2%. So since they invest in so many ETF's I want a performance figure to compare with ETFSA to see which is better.

According to this EE webpage, that is not true. All of their ETF TFSA baskets have a 0.5% basket fee.

What exactly is a 'basket fee'? Is this different from other monthly or yearly admin fees?

If you pick your own ETFs then there is no fee.

If you use their preselected baskets then there is a fee because they do research, do weightings, etc for you. Fee is on top of the underlying ETF fee.

The basket was designed to make rookie investors lives easier, so they don't need to do research and figure out what to invest in.
