Hi, I need to replace my front tyres on my lexus is 250. Currently I have Michelin pilot sport 225/45 R17 and noticed a few cuts on the tyre.
What brand would you guys recommended for durability and comfort?
You'll be amazed at how much that extra little bit of an air cushion soaks up the rumble of the road or small bumps.
It is not the air in the tire that improves the comfort. It is the large sidewall, that flexs more over small bumps. This is called undamped movement.
It has to do with the additional flexing of a larger sidewall that occurs before the damper cracking pressure.
Fitting a larger circumference tire, will cause the following issues.
1. speedo error
2. maybe rubbing.
3. on some cars, abs/TC issues.
4. you will also sacrifice handling.
Conventional wisdom is to stick with the same circumference.
I recommend bridgestone, good durability in sa, longer wear. made for the grand tourers.
Pirelli, Michelin, yoko all bias handling over comfort, and are a softer rubber, this increases driver feedback and handling response. but it sacrifices durability.
Mostly go for round ones.
Not sure if I've expressed my appreciation for your input in the motoring section, some good knowledge that you share here, thanks.
I been reading that the Michelin's I have are not durable and is a soft compound tyre, not sure how true that is.It is not the air in the tire that improves the comfort. It is the large sidewall, that flexs more over small bumps. This is called undamped movement.

I don't know why there are cuts/peeling on the tyre though. The treads are fine.
Its mostly on the side walls but did see one at the centre of the tyre starting from a thread. I will try to post as pic tomorrow. Is the peeling or cut on the sidewall?
How far away from the thread blocks(thread)?
Can you post a pic?
Hi guys, I noticed my rear tyres are Michelin primacy HP and fronts are pilot sport 3.
Does this make a difference?
