I am looking at Telkom because of the free speed upgrades. I have not seen a single ISP (other) say they are going to pass through the speed upgardes at no extra charge. If any have please link info here.
That said my mind is not 100% made up, they follow Mweb's pricing relatively well and for an extra R50 I get a 2mb line which upgrades to a 4mbps line sometime after November. I also do not have to worry as much with them about throttling. A 4mbps line should be able to stream video (netfliks and hulu okay).
So that said are there better options?

Only if you have either a capped or 4mbps uncapped account (capped will give better performance).

Note that TI will not be upgrading their 2mbps uncapped accounts to 4mbps for free; their 4mbps is currently R369/mth.

They will be upgrading their 1mbps for free right? As it seems pointless to offer 1mbps service and give away a 2mbps line? Stands to reason no one is going to upgrade at an extra fee just because of the upgrade. This is the way it worked last time round?

I think all ISPs would bundle their existing data with the new lines, this should see a drop in price, e.g MWEB 2Mb is 599 including line, the 1Mb is 339. it is 369 for the 2mb data and 199 for 1mb. effectively they charge R230 for a 2mb line and 140 for a 1mb which should be 4 and 2mb respecively in these products. imo hopefully they add 140 to 369 and get to R509 for 2Mb and 230 to 4Mb of 539 and get to R769. I also hope they maintain the 1Mb product for lines not seeing upgrades or not possible to get the upgrades. The 10Mb accounts should see no price changes at all.

I believe all ISPs will follow suite. As afrihost however charges about R100 for a 10Mb line, I would really wonder how things will end up for them though

No-one that I have seen has confirmed new packages but I estimate we should see changes similar tio the above mentioned

MickZA , did TI already confirm no free data upgrades for any of us ?
To the best of my knowledge this was just wishful thinking by some who confuse Telkom with TI, I doubt the other ISPs would stand for it in any event.

Ranger hinted at some future changes to the uncapped accounts a while back but I suspect this might be along the lines of variable pricing for the same line speed, you know, TI 2MB Uncapped Silver & TI 2MB Uncapped Gold type of offering.
