Yip Edgars and the Plaza messed up Guess for me.
But I dont mind to much:p

The good thing now is I get much better prices for the exact same thing at the Plaza. 2 jeans for the price of one.

How do you explain store A's t-shirt that fades after 3 washes and store B's product that last for 4 years?

No do not be sad at least there is something to shorten too. All my pants has no hems, I try to hide the hippie at work, the frayed hems give me away!!!
 
If you look closely, you'll see the amount of Store B non-fade t-shirts are declining at such an exponential rate that soon, there won't be any left of them. Granted, not all do this but it is becoming more and more the norm. Just look around you.

It's like creating a PC component and selling it for X and then selling that same component with certain features disabled for X-1. They both cost the same to produce but they are being sold at different levels and different prices to create a low-end, mid range and high-end market.

Maybe Gucci and Dolce still come out of Italy for the most part. But not for long. Quality control has completely gone out the window and the high end brands will follow shortly. Sure, you'll never see Made in China on those brands. But that doesn't mean it wasn't made there.

Just watch and wait and see.
 
Makro, Pick n Pay, Mr. Price, etc.... All sell reasonably good clothing. I don't pay a premium for my clothing and I am not such a sap as to advertise for anyone else. They should be paying me to wear their brand name. IMO and IME the clothing lasts just as long depending how you care for it. I have had shirts and pants that have lasted me years from the cheaper stores. I don't see why I should pay 2 to 3 times as much at Woolworths or some designer store in the mall that has to pay R80,000 a month rent. Buy what fits you, buy what looks nice, buy nice colours.

Only saps and snobs buy from the premium name stores, cos they think it somehow makes them smarter or better. Lemmings, all of them.

The last batch of clothing I got from Makro was all Legend, CampCraft (jackets and shirts), Chino (pants) and Bear brand. And was very very reasonably priced.
 
I find woolies smart shirts last very very well and don't fade (the cotton range for around R199 each). Edgars work shirts are cheap (R79) but really crap and fade quickly.

For jeans, it really IS worth spending R600 on Levi's or similar. They fit so well and do last. I have a pairs of jeans from Markhams that are so badly made even though they cost R300. Bad fitting pants are the worst thing for a man and the wedding tackle. Rather skimp on tshirts and tops.

Read the labels carefully... Woolworths, Truworths and a few other stores import from China. I refuse to pay R320 for a pants that's been marked up like 300%.

I like the Urban brand. Big Blue make funky t-shirts. I buy from Mr Price too. I like unique stuff. I love Paul Frank too.
 
I find people who are brand obsessed generally having self esteem issues. Buy him anything from Mr Price, they won't wear it. I live with them. I find it financially stupid to buy Guess, Polo, and shyt like that but you can't afford a decent meal. I wear anything that suits me - cheap stuff.

If the world could realize this, the fashion industry would sink in a single day since the people who wear designer clothes for comfort or durability are in the minority.

Im not DJK.
Im not in the minority.
Im not stupid, I know clothing, I know the industry, I know the mark ups.
I agree some things are over priced.
But I do know that you are wrong:)

I know what cheap jeans feel like, I know what a branded jeans feel like.
Theirs a big difference.
I have a cupboard full of designer clothing, I can tell every piece by the fit, feel and style without knowing the label, to be honest I dont know most of my shirt labels, but I can tell you which colour and fit I like best.

Brand names are not there to fool people, the people they would be trying to fool are people that have good taste and decision making(except for people in government:p).

If you bored this weekend go buy a pair of Guess jeans and one from Mr Price... report back in a month.:)
