My current contract is coming up for renewal at the end of May so I'm trying to figure out who offers the best value contract for that price.

I'm only interested in who is offering the best device balanced with the best call/sms value. I'm also not worried about data since I'm pretty much connected to WiFi all day. Not worried about topups. Just a straight simple contract.
I'll worry about who offers the best service once I have a better idea of the best all round value.
I'm only concerned with Android devices.
(No, this is not an invitation to argue about which phone is better than which. This is simply about facts.)

I don't want to exceed R150pm.

Thanks.

I haven't used cellc in aaages, so I cannot really say anything about reception, signal quality etc.

What I did find out yesterday though, is that they have the Samsung Galaxy S1 (i9000) for R145 p/m on casualchat, not too sure about all the ins & outs of that contract. Now the Galaxy S1 is indeed an aging phone (2010) , but I reckon it still packs a pretty decent punch and its specs aren't all too bad either.

Then I would also recommend you compare it against the HTC Desire S, MTN had that phone at R89 p/m on a anytime100 I think. Also maybe phone other networks and find out on what contracts they have the desire S. Seems to be a very nice phone.

Thanks for the input. I was looking at those. Seems like a good deal.
The Galaxy S is aging but still seems to have a bit more punch than some of the newer phones. I do like the Desire S and that's a ridiculously cheap contract.

You actually get quite a bit with those RBM contracts : 200 minutes, 500MB and 100 sms'es, and a device like the Galaxy S1.

Then again if you are paying R145 for the same phone you can go R100 over your monthly subs with CellC or even more with the desire S on MTN anytime100, and still draw level.

Yea, the contracts are great but for the R149 they offer the RBM C and it's not a great phone. But you are right. The contract value is pretty impressive.

This is where it all gets complicated. There is such a huge difference in the little details like airtime, sms, data between service providers that it gets tricky to work out the total overall value.

I think I might have to pull all contracts under R150 and do a good old side by side comparison.

I have been using the HTC Desire S for about 2 weeks now, think its a a really great deal they are offering. It's obviously not in the range of the SII but performs solidly all round.

Thanks. It's always good to get an opinion from someone actually using the device.
