I have a core 2 duo e8500 oc'd to 4ghz, and a gtx275 card. What's my best option for a noticeable upgrade, between 2 to 3k rands? I've got no particular preference for nvidia or ati - whatever gives me best bang for buck wins. Thanks in advance

Does the 6970 flash trick work reliably? No risks to the card?

Very little to no risk, since you get a dual bios and can just flip the switch to go back to the default settings. I love my 6950, was an amazing buy and modding it just makes me smile more :D

Sounds awesome, that pretty much decides it for me. Thanks for the help guys!

The Gigabyte GTX 560 Ti @ ~R2600 from Take2.co.za is also a very good buy, but its out of stock atm.

Yup, the 2 big contenders are the GTX 560 and HD6950 (even without unlocking the extra shaders). Personally I'm going for a HD6950 at the end of March, you can pick 1 up for like R2800 at rebeltech.

Well i was in a similar situation, had a gtx 275 and i upgraded to the same gigabyte gtx OC 560ti that was being sold at take2 , and i think it is an amazing card, runs extremely cool and is so silent, and its performance is right where it should be for 2.5k, good bang for buck. Was a worthy upgrade from my gtx 275. And i can even clock it higher to 950mhz without any voltage bump, and the fan still keeps it under 70 and quite(running furmark btw). So i might be biased, but i dont care :D, the card is awsome....but if you could flash a 6950 then i guess that would be better...

Bah, Wootware is out of stock on the 6950, as I go there to place the order.
