Best value MB and RAM

What is the best value MB and RAM that supports the QX6600 or the E6850?

The MB must be able to handle basic OC. Is there specific combinations of the MB and RAM that works best?
 
ASUS P5K Intel P35 LGA775, 1333FSB, 4xDual DDR2 1066, 2x PCI-x16, 1xPCI-x1, 3xPCI, 1xATA133, 4xSATAII, Gbe Lan, 8ch-Sound, Max 12xUSB, 2xIEEE1394, ATX @ R1380 through me ... this is a nice board good but on a budget. But I'm not to clued up on OC ... I think this should be able to handle basic OC ... but the guys who read this will know better.

Memorywise ... how much you wanna spend ... good overclocking memory is gonna prob start at around R1100 for Team Xtreem 2x1GB DDR800 4-4-4-12 ... but I think Super Talent may be cheaper ... but I dunno where to get them
 
How are the Intel P35 Dragontail boards, they're very cheap and have all the specs you need plus the cheapest P35 (ICHR9) chipset around.

There is some good OCZ Platinum DDR-800 RAM around now. R999 for 2GB, rev.2 with CL4 latencies. I'd buy that personally, but there is cheaper stuff around, this is quality though for the price. Btw, at take2.co.za and computersonly.co.za.

You can check most Mobo manufacturers websites for supported ram, but basically anything works if you're using matched pairs.

I will actually be registering with the suppliers for OCZ ram soon ... will let you know prices
 
I am thinking of going for the upgrade seeing that the lightning put me in this situation. I don't want to pay more than R5 500 for the lot : cpu, mb & ram
 
In response to the intel boards .... after reading a few threads a while ago ... I would rather go for Asus or Gigabyte
 
For R5400 I can get you the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R which is not bad for overclocking as far as I know, as well as either the Q6600 or E6850 and 2x1GB Team Xtreem Dark Ram with Heatsink DDR 800 4-4-4-12 ...

By the way ... wat gfx are you currently running ... and wat PSU ... Also, is your Hard Drive IDE or SATA?
 
if your looking to overclock neither of those boards are great

Don't completely agree with you killa. The gigabyte is an awesome board and has got great reviews when it came to ocing.But the P5K is also a very good OCing board and i have read it multiple times.For a budget the P5K is tops solid board.
And personally i would prob also go for the OCZ ram.Prices really good too.
The other MB's mentioned are prob ok but wouldn't try and OC with 'em.

i know you said the gigabyte board, i was just confirming its a good board

Well thats why I put these two boards down ... I'm not really into overclocking ... but I read this forum enough ... and these two boards I'm sure have appeared here before. I'm waiting till tomorrow to get an e-mail with a price for OCZ memory

The cheap Gigabyte and intel boards fits that clove perfectly, sticking to the "value" portion of course, and it can o/c a bit too. I did not say it was preferred o/c boards.

The GA-G31MX-S2 is a new board and has not been mentioned on this forum before.
 
We understand johnnyQ...but for the price he specified(yes later on) the others mentioned would be preferred.I think thats why it changed.

Lol ... no problems ... just pray that the rand/dollar doesn't take a hike and Axiz still has in stock :P
