Hi there. I have a office pc here at work running a i7 950. at stock prim95 at can easily go up to 90C. I was thinking of getting a new cooler. case is nothing special. Still running stock cooler. I was thinking of going for something like the corsair h60/70/80 cooler. is it worth paying the extra going with the h80 or will the h60 be enough to keep it cool.

Just remember no overclocking will be done for now.

H60 will be more than enough, however if you intend to overclock it later maybe a H80 will have to do, since 1366 socket CPU's run really hot.

First thing that springs to my mind...why do you have an i7 office PC? :D

H60 would be just fine I reckon, maybe the H70 or H80 would give more headroom if you ever need it. Worth the extra few Rands? It usually is :)

Why not an i7 at the office?

I'm running an i7 860 (cooled by Cogage True Spirit) + 12GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM + 128GB OCZ Agility 4 SSD + 500GB HDD and a dual screen setup.

For an office PC I don't see a point in getting such an expensive CPU cooler, unless you intend on overclocking your CPU quite a bit.
A Cogage True Spirit @ R329 / Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo @ R362 would be more than good enough to keep the i5 950 cool at stock speeds and even at overclocked speeds too.

If you're going to overclock it to 4GHz+, then I'd suggest that you look at those Corsair H60 - H80 coolers though.

The thing is I want this chip to last me as long as it can. It's a developers pc. REason I was thinking of going with a corsair cooler is because the case is small for a big cooler. I want something cheap and better than intel stock cooler.

Also i like the no maintenance on the corsair hydro series of coolers

Hmmm - 90 degrees is tooooo hot! I had the 950 and with the stock cooler it ran at about 65 degrees. Check it is fitted properly. The Corsair closed loops are pretty good though!

I have a Coolermaster RC310 case, which isn't even that big either.
The Cogage True Spirit and Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo can fit in this case.

You can also consider the following coolers:
Corsair H40 @ R617 (incl VAT, ex shipping)
Antec Kuehler 620 @ R651 (incl VAT, ex shipping)

it's properly fitted. my motherboard is the MSI x58 pro-e and my case is a standart foxconn case

any other way that I can decrease the temps without having to buy a new cooler cause I tried to fix it but I'm out of ideas. they don't want to spend money on a new cooler now.
