best vdsl modem available now?

Its possible. Don't have another VDSL router to compare. But till now no issues on my side.

After a few weeks of waiting for Takealot, they finally stock the Billion 8800 NXL. A buddy bought me two of these from tarsus about 6 months ago - one for work and one for home. The difference in sync stats is downright amazing for ADSL (only have 10mbps adsl at home). I have to say, from the complaints about Zyxel and Pace routers, I'm quite happy I spent the money on the Billion. The one at work is on 40mbps VDSL and hasn't lost sync ever (except for loadshedding)

Out of experience I can agree with you on the Billions. They are pretty simple yet powerful. But I must add. This is the first Zyxel i purchased in over 5 years and im still pleased with their products. I think people complain about simple things like wifi. But if you tech savvy and know how to configure it properly it works great. We currently use the Billions for L2TP connections. But im going to try the ZyXEL bigger brother.

Pretty good price from Takealot. Purchased mine from Webantics for about R1228 incl shipping. Might just pick one up as backup

Pitty ubiquity and Mikrotik doesn't have VDSL routers.
