hi..

I'm looking for a vdsl modem with a decent wifi.
i was searching for best value/performance i can get locally.

i found this one :

zyxel VMG8924-B10A for R1740
http://www.weable.co.za/zyxel-dual-...voip-combo-wan-gigabit-iad.html#product-tabs1

and
asus dsl-n66u R2500
http://www.wootware.co.za/asus-dsl-...n900-adsl-vdsl-modem-and-wireless-router.html

i couldn't find anything on the web about the zyxel router
what do you think about a vdsl with ac wifi for that price?

and if anyone knows what's the best buy?

thanks..

thanks..
i've narrowed my choices into :

1 - billion 8800nxl
2 - tp-link wd 9980
3 - zyxel VMG8924-B10A

i can spend up to 2k for a combo router
yet don't know which one shoud i get
i just want a stable connection with good wifi that stream hd contents

I would love to have a simple VDSL modem, with no wifi, to use with my Asus RT-N66U router.

Anyone seen one of those around ?

Nope havent seen any. Best bet is to disable most features on your vdsl router and run that into your asus. I did that with my pace into a tplink but thinking of buying the Billion combo and just using that.

The zyxel isnt great, I have one at work and Im not a fan at all.
I would look elsewhere.

I have a Billion 8800NXL and I love it! :D Amazing line stats, very stable, pleasant interface etc.

The WiFi signal is pretty decent too. I would recommend it. Only issue I had was when sparks were coming out of my telephone cables due to lightning (I am guessing) striking my exchange or somewhere near to the underground cables.
That did kill the DSL port on the router, however the router itself did survive. :P

I got another 8800NXL to replace my first one ^^

I've been looking for a VDSL router myself and from the thread, I have learned:

PACE 921VNX

This is the router Telkom tries to sell VDSL customers.

+1 was skeptical but a great router. In the end I never got VDSL but ADSL2+ 20mb. Going to keep the router anyway to replace the D-link 2750u that always gives timeout errors - specially when connecting remotely.

Only difference is that the nxl has support for 3G as well which makes it a triple WAN device as opposed to dual WAN like the 8800NL.

No 5ghz support unfortunately.

My one zyxel died from lightening.

Got the SBG 3300 -

Although I don't use the wireless on it, the router has been performing incredibly well. a + 1 recommendation from me. Although, take it with a pinch of salt, I have only used two VDSL routers before.

want one that has wireless ac, so as to future proof it

I use the ZyXEL 1312 and I don`t have a problem with Wifi at all. If you know your way around configuring wifi properly you should not have any issues. Use it at home with 6 devices connected to it.

Its also pretty decent with its standard features and line stats looks great.

I don't believe the line stats are accurate. Perhaps a firmware update fixes that.
