I just wanted to know which vehicle tracker is most reliable. I was considering going with Netstar but I've heard some bad things... Any thoughts/suggestions?

Tracker Skytrax worked like a dream for me ... the 36-month installation contract is a pain, but you can get it at a discounted rate of around R240/month (don't accept whatever their ratecard rate is). What I liked about it was its new mobile app, which just worked easily ... not like the C-track system that Discovery Insure forces on all their clients and which doesn't even have a mobile app (and the desktop interface is terrible).

On the other side of the scale there are all kinds of budget systems, but those are only good for if you don't actually want your car back but your insurer insists on a tracking device. I've never seen the point. I'd rather get a proper system that fulfills its purpose in an emergency involving my loved ones. At least make sure you go for a GPS-based system and not a GSM-based (cheaper) system.

Netstar- car was stolen, reported within 10 minutes. No signal found. Car gone forever.
Cartrack- car stolen, reported in 10 minutes. Recovered within 2 hours.

Who wants their vehicle back after they stole it, normally they rip out all the wires to try and deactivate the tracker. Had to get one when I bought the vehicle had it for 1 year cancelled it as it only lowered the insurance premium by R40 and had to pay R120p/m for the tracker. Waste of time if you ask me.

Do you guys not have wives or girlfriends, who might be hijacked with you, while you're kicked out of the car and it drives off with them inside it? Sure you don't want a tracker then?

They can keep them as well, that why you have insurance.

Make sure she takes out insurance just in case something happens to her as well.

Why would you want your wife or gf back???

Far easier to write them off and get a younger, fresher, more naaieve version.

Holy hell guys. You're not exactly winning awards for "partner of the year" over here. Even as a joke, I would never wish that my partner was abducted by hijackers.

Look there’s a lot more negatives than positives for a tracker.
Hence most don’t see a need for it.

Just take the car, it’s a car. Don’t need to get hurt over finding a tracking device.

There's always the duct tape method. Install a phone into a hidden compartment with power. Install life360 for perma tracking.

Do you drive a polo, fortuner or Ranger?

Lol. Business vehicles. Netstar was Toyota. CarTrack was BMW 3 Series. CarTrack offers best warranty if they can’t recover. Agree with other comments, main reason is for family. Any car my wife is in or my kids are transported in must have a tracker of some sort.
