Hi all

I am hoping that one of you knowledgeable forumites might be able to advise me on the cheapest and quickest way to jump from MWEB to Afrihost. I have currently requested Telkom to install a new telephone line// number in our house.Unfortunately i wont be able to use the old number(change of ownership) I have been told by MWEB that i first need to transfer the adsl back to Telkom, and then request it to be transferred back to MWEB with the new number(They dont know i am jumping ship yet) Since the opportunity has now presented itself to jump ship, from your experience what is the best//quickest way to change ISP's . Would it be :

a) Downgrade to capped 1 GIG;then give notice of cancellation in October; then move to Afrihost
b) Ask telkom to install another adsl line with the new number and go straight to Afrihost ?

If i go with option "a" which seems to cheapest route, how long do you guys think it will take, and will i be without internet during this cancellation period?
If i go with "b" will i have to pay Telkom ADSL installation fees again, even though there is adsl already installed on the premises?

I will really appreciated any advise you guys can give:)

Continue MWEB until your new line has been put in. Once that has happened, sign up with Afrihost on your new number and as soon as the line has migrated cancel MWEB.

(At least that's best in my opinion)

I would downgrade to 1MG and request ADSL xfer to Telkom and give notice. Sign up with Afrihost on 1st, or a day or 2 sooner as I think they charge pro rata. As soon as you have your Afrihost account, change the modem adsl login form Mweb to Afrihost.

If you are using Mweb's mailbox, sign up for a gmail account and get gmail to pull mail from the Mweb box, at the same time, mail your contacts about a change of address. As you still have to pay Mweb something (hopefully only R29) for October, your Mweb mailbox will still be active.

If you are using an email client such as Outlook, change the mailbox settings to point to gmail. If you are using Outlook, set up a new profile for the gmail account and once everything has migrated you can delete the old profile.
