We would like to start investing in crypto montly. We are looking to start investing about 1k/m.

Ive been reading up but its super confusing.

Any recomendations how we can start small?

To start we would just like to invest in bitcoin and eth and then once comfortable venture into the shaky ground of altcoin.

Is the sticky info still relevant?

What’s there to be confused about?

You take the R1000 and you buy every month, spread as you like.

If you really want to make it work do it as an auto-buy and don’t try to time the market and never look at any charts.

Even better do it with someone like Luno and you can use the savings wallet to grow it by earning some interest instead of just letting it sit there.

this is my least fav approach just buy the coins you want and hold them, not letting hype drive the holdings as thats exactly what EC10 is. Elon farts and half your portfolio is gone...

Well it is basically 55% Bitcoin, 25% eth and then the other top 10 coins to a smaller degree, doge makes up like 2%. This is the safest play for anyone who does not want to do any research but if you are willing to put in the time then buying coins you have researched is a better approach.

ah this is better than I thought then and not a bad - lazy approach then.

Can you custody your own coins? I highly doubt it with products like these.

Also don't think, think this product is more aimed at people just getting into the market if you are a whale this is probably not the route to go.

Sorry but this is completely false. I am not a whale and I custody all my own crypto. The global financial system is not in great shape and the odds are high that banks and many services like these could go belly up. The entire point of crypto is to remove counter-party risk.

Custodying your own funds is just good practice IMO. Buy a quality hardware wallet, open an exchange account, then learn how to transfer funds. I know many people don't want to do this but being your own bank is about taking full responsibility for it.

If banks collapse your crypto will be the least of your problems. Having your own wallet is best practice but only really applicable if you have large amounts of money or if you are not using a trusted exchange.

Get Easy Equities and buy EC 10 for R 1000 a month.

that's a hard "no" from me

had a bunch of bucks there, back when I didn't realise how strongly correlated the crypto market is in general

ended up losing way more that way than had I just bought BTC with the same money, plus to my disgust I owned some Doge

now I control it all, but for those who don't want to overthink and just want easy crypto exposure: buy BTC and be done with it

What exchanges do you guys use? Luno, binance? Ive read of so many exchanges that went tits up in the last year so just looking for advice from people that have been in it.

Got gifted a hardware wallet so would prefer to buy and transfer to my own wallet.

Thanks for all the advice so far. I appreciate it

There's now EasyCrypto where you don't have to just have EC10. Can buy individual coins there.

Interesting, can you send the coins to another exchange or is everything in house ?

Valr, Luno, Binance, FTX and Kucoin.

Depends what you want to do, Binance is probably the biggest and has the bets interface in my opinion.

Binance is the biggest if variety of tokens and trading volume is important to you, but like you said: it depends on what you want to do.

Their interface is geared towards traders, it is definitely not beginner-friendly.

For a true beginner in South Africa I'd say just stick to either Luno or Valr.
