Hi there.

I want to find out which service provider (in South Africa) is the best for website hosting? They must be reliable (very little downtime), not too expensive, and have easy to setup and mange hosting.

The reason Im asking is that I want to host a few websites (some dynamic, some static), and need a real good service provider to do the hosting.

I do international hosting, so I might be able to help out :)

If you want local, which I don't currently offer, I would go with hetzner.

Hi, you should give (link removed - see signature) a try. They're well priced and offer good service.

Those 2 unfortunately don't agree in the current context :(

Unless there is a specific reason that you wish to host on local servers (for websites it usually means a webpage that loads about 500ms / 0.5 seconds faster) then there is no reason not host overseas. .co.za domains can be hosted overseas with no trouble - and the costs of hosting with PHP and MySQL overseas makes dynamic sites a much more viable proposition.

There are a number of companies around that will provide you with overseas based hosting at overseas prices - but with the benefits of local support staff that you can get hold of in South African business hours and invoices in Rands at the end of the month :D

@lantic has some really good hosting products and they are cheapish and downtime is virtually 0:D

Hi ambo,

AmpleHosting invoices in Rands - and they have local support staff that you can call or email. Their servers are overseas for most of their hosting plans but they also offer local hosting - especially their root vps and personal hosting plans. So I'm happy to host overseas with them as I don't see much of a difference in page loading times. perhaps 1 second. and I can get a helpful person on the phone.

I am in exactly the same line of business as AmpleHosting - I just did not feel the need to spam the thread :D

HETZNER; they run on UUNET and VERIZON
very reliable

HOST4AFRICA.com is also good for International BW.

I still believe (link removed - see signature) is a good choice.
