Hi

I am currantly looking to WiFi my bussiness and want to know what in your oppinion is the best WiFi router to gofor. Other than Cisco stuff.

Depends what you are aiming to achieve.

If flexibility in customising the router - go for the Linksys GS models

Otherwise any run of the mill router should do for most uses.

Hi

For a small office / medium sized, the best router i've used for my clients is the Netgear DG834G router.

Its got a built in ADSL modem, hardware firewall, wireless AP, and 4 port switch.

Configuration in the web browser is easy and simple.

If the client has a ADSL connection, this router is defintly your choice.

If not, you can just buy the same one without the adsl function.

Ciao

I've had a lot of sucess with Planet Access Points and Linksys (built on Cisco). They're both give you great range and reliability...

i would vote for a routerboard and mikrotik but like SideWinder said, "depends what you are aiming to achieve"

I'm a big fan of Senao. Have a look at www.miro.co.za.
I do not recommend the Senao Indoor Bridges/AP.
Terrible interface,poor stats rather use the Linksys WRT54GL
and re-flash with the v23 firmware www.dd-wrt.org

Includes some really cool apps
* Chillispot Hotspot manager
* Increase TX power output to 251mW

Senao PCMCIA or Mini-PCI cards in a RB532 Routerboard
used with Mikrotik are perfect.
www.routerboard.com or www.mikrotik.com

If you want to setup a Wireless Mesh network then look at the
following firmware from http://www.freifunk.net/wiki/FreifunkFirmwareEnglish
in order to setup OLSR for meshing with dynamic rouing

Why other than Cisco stuff ... ?

The Linksys router is not expensive compared to other router's which arent cisco, its roughly the same price around R600

I love my Linksys WRT54G...

It wasn't that expensive compared to other similar wireless routers. It runs Linux so you can load aftermarket firmware that exposes way more features than the standard version. Take a look at http://www.linksysinfo.org/

Do not buy SMC the boss insisted on that brand and i`m configuring the third replacement unit in 12 months !! Linksys is the way to go even D-Link is not bad.

D-link = Crap
SMC = Crap
Senao = Crap

WRT54G = Nice, but currently there are too many versions around to be a safe buy.

Asus WL500G deluxe = most feature rich, openwrt compatbile router ATM.

hmmm I never had problems with D-Link and they do pretty much nething a small network requires so best to do some reseach price vs. features u need vs. reliabilty and make a decision from there and normally u get what u pay for so dnt go the cheapest route.
