Beware Poor Service Levels from 8ta

It is worrying. Although from the previous posts, there are more sites which will be going up. Hopefully this will resolve the issues.

Not sure on the fibre backhaul.

There's "always" towers that will go live soon. I heard it here and from 8ta in my town and I'm still waiting.

2 Weeks now and still pathetic speeds. I'm averaging < 1Kb/s download speeds and 1000+ms pings locally.

And as normal no-one listens to what you are telling them that this latest slowdown is NOT related to the poor coverage. It does not just tank overnight and stay tanked because of poor coverage.

And just a warning to all those who are thinking of getting 8ta. IF you find the service is as useless as people are now finding, they will not help you, they will not call back when they promise to, they will take months to get towers installed, they will not offer to refund you for their mess of a network and the WILL charge you R800 admin fee PLUS the remaining months of your contract to cancel (The cancellation fee section was confirmed by the 8ta rep on the phone a few minutes ago).

They can't charge the R800 and the remaining months, that's just stupid (instead of cancelling one could just cut their sim up). It's also contrary to the CPA where they are limited to charging a "reasonable cancellation fee".

That said, if they aren't providing said service, in theory, one could take them to the CPA council and not pay the cancellation fee.

I know its stupid Carnajo, it makes no sense at all. I repeated it back to the consultant to double check and he confirmed. In all likeliness he's just ill-informed but that yet again highlights the incompetence of 8ta.

8ta rep on this forum posted that there would be no clawback, only the R800 "admin" fee.

I have exactly the same problems with very low download and upload speeds. This is rediculous. As far as I understand is that legally 8ta can not charge the cancellation fee because it is due to their poor service and because they are not delivering what they adverised. You have recourse ito the CPA. Just cancelled my Vodacom contract and went over to 8ta. Big mistake. Aparently the 20 Gb of Vodacom is only a prepaid and only available from now to 9 Jan according to Vodashop Woodlands. You will pay normal fees after 9 Jan.

I would have guessed this is all they are legally allowed to charge. The problem is that the people you deal with on the call centers trying to to resolve your problems are utterly incapable of even getting simple things like "what is the cancellation fee" correct, how on earth are they capable of fixing service quality problems or even capable of listening to what the customers are saying to pass the proper feedback to this mystical "technical department" which never returns calls, emails and is incapable of fixing network problems.

It's still Telkom after all people, Bad customer service is part of their operations

So to keep this going. I still have not been contacted by the networking department as promised and I still have terrible quality of service.

To anyone thinking of using 8ta, don't bother. There is a reason they are cheap. They have no clue on customer service. They will not hold to their promises of contacting you. They will just ignore you and frustrate you and when you query about cancelling you are told that you must pay R800 PLUS the remaining contract. Don't bother considering them.

I'll add to the woes.

(Luckily) Only bought the 8ta prepaid just to test it out. I live in Sandton, which has full 3G coverage. Or does it? I couldn't even get a signal, nevermind 3G. Logged a call (after 43min on the phone with Brandon from the call centre), got a reference number, was in contact with the 8ta rep a week later after complaining... It has been 3 weeks now with NO response.

I am going to buy my MTN sim card today.
