Beware: VR headset offer at Game Stores not compatible with hansets.

Hi guys. For anyone who is planning to take up the offer of a free VR headset (valued at R1999) from Game, beware... I signed up for the offer but only later found out that the device is not compatible with VR apps as it does not have a gyroscope. I suspect that none of the phones they have on offer have gyros, at least not the J5 and Hauwei P8 Lite.
 
@OP, does the headset need the gyroscope or the phone?

Also, it's Huawei...

The headset is nothing more than a plastic box with special lenses, same setup as Google cardboard and Samsung gear VR... The mobile handset requires a gyroscope to track head movement...
 
It looks like on the basis of that ad you should approach the cpa.

Unless the ad doesn't tie the headset to the phone. As in it doesn't say it works with that phone, but rather that it is a headset and it comes with the deal?

We thank you for your email.

We do understand your frustrations regarding the query, however we are not able to intervene.

The only people who are able to further assist is the consultant who signed the deal with you, and the manager of the store as they have last authorization.

Franchises such as Game are obliged to provide/ promote their own store deals.

Any disputes with the contract application you will need to speak to the manager.

Should the manager not be able to further assist they could escalate the query on your behalf.
 
The thing is, the store manager told me I'm talking rubbish and that Game always makes 100% sure that there are no errors in their sales pamphlets. I doubt they are planning on escalating anything.
 
My gripe is that even though I demonstrated to them that there was a clear issue with the product, the manager brushed me of instead of trying to escalate an issue that potentially affects thousands of South African consumers. That is why I'm trying to bring this issue to the attention of tech savvy consumers that may also be lured into this unsavory deal at the prospect of a VR experience.
 
I checked all the promoted phones on GSM arena (except the Vodacom phones which aren't listed) and none of the devices have gyroscopes. That means that none of the handsets offered can be used for VR.
 
Not sure what you are still trying to do here, just start doing what needs to be done.

Tell that person you are going to do the following if he/she can't help you:

1. Inform their manager
2. Complain at complaints @ game
3. Open Hello peter
4. Open a case with CPA
5. Open case with Police of fraud(?)
6. Get credit reversal started with bank

There are many options which you should follow through.

The Gear VR has it's own gyros built in that work far more accurately than the phone gyros. Part of the cost of the device
 
Is it a Google Cardboard headset? If so, I'm afraid it isn't misleading advertising at all. No Cardboard sets come with gyroscopes as far as I know. Plus you should have done some of your own research on it, you can't really blame the Game stores for misleading you here.
 
@profeet I am trying to raise awareness about this dodgy promotion so that hopefully others will not have to experience the same disappointment as myself.

Its hardly a "dodgy" promotion as you call it..

It IS a VR Headset, it makes no claims of having a gyroscope installed, or anything. Its just a fancy Google Cardboard headset pretty much.

Instead of hiding behind 8 post please use your real username than boycott a reputable retail outlet. I did my research and decided against it. You can watch VR movies if you like but forget about playing games.
