Beyerdynamic DT 880 - Ever gave these a try?

So I was just browsing through the MyBB classifieds and came across this:

Sounded good, but I ended up doing a bit of research and saw a lot of reviews who mentioned that if you didn't have an unlimited budget the Beyerdynamic DT 880 headphones are considered by many to be with the top 2 or 3 headphones in the world. Then I found this:

R3633,40. Not bad at all, considering... :erm:

So has anyone ever listened to a pair these?
I'm currently sitting with a pair of Bose on ear headphones, and truth be told, while they're nice I paid like R2.1K for them. You can get a helluva lot better quality for much less cash with something like Sennheiser. Not that I'm unhappy with them.

But anyway, so I'm thinking now that it might be better to save up and buy those Beyerdynamics, it really does sound like they're the type of headphones that'll last you lifetime and it would be great to know I've got the best of the best, and be done with it.

After that I'll focus on headphone amps, soundcard etc.

Do you listen to hip-hop/rap/bassy music? Those headphones suit it, as they have quite a bassy emphasis.

Loving my Sennheiser HD650s. I definitely prefer the neutrality/reference quality.

Much prefer Sennheiser design over BD, as well. :)

They should still work awesome for that too though :)

And yes, Postmanpot, Sennheiser is fantastic. I had a R700 pair (can't remember the exact number) which sounded just as good as my R2.1K Bose

I'm not a true audiophile by any means, but I am a massive sucker when it comes to good headphones. I've always got a simple rule that has served me well so far:
ALWAYS buy a better/more expensive pair of cans that your previous ones.

Then you should rather look at AKG. Generally speaking. They are a lot 'brighter', and so preferred for rock.

Or just get these and be over with. Excellent deal, 50Ohm, so they won't need amplification as much as higher end, higher Ohm headphones. They are also quite bright (more than the HD650 I've found), really good for rock!

Yeah that deal is truly enticing. A friend of mine keeps going on about how much he'd like a nice pair of Skullcandys (WTF DUDE?!?!?).
He doesn't like the fact that those Sennheisers are like a year old, doesn't matter of course, in fact, they'd probably be "burned in" nicely by now. Thinking of getting them for myself.

So sad! :D I can only imagine, with their "cool effect", how popular they are amongst non discerning listeners, mainly youths etc. :(

As long as they've been looked after, they'll be perfect. Plus, since Sennies are modular, they could replace the ear cups etc.

You'd best hurry. ;)

haha, indeed. I didn't expect any better though, the dude has extremely k@k taste in music too, fits the look of the Skullcandys.

EDIT: And, wow, you've got a pair of 650's? Faark me, must be awesome!
 
Hmm. There are at least two versions of the DT 880, with differing impedance (32ohm vs 600ohm iirc), so if you go that route it would be best to check which one you are getting, because they will differ a lot regarding amplification requirements.

True that.
It just sucks that the PC I use the most is a gaming notebook with the usual crappy soundcard everyone uses.
I'll probably just get one of those Creative External soundcards for now.

I can recommend this. Works great for lower Ohm headphones, and provides a bit of amplification. There was some bass distortion when using the highest amplification option at medium to higher volume, so probably not the best option to use. You'd want to use 'Hifi' option for music listening - removes all post processing so you hear better what the producer intended. 'Music' option does sound pretty nice with its post processing, and adds good amplification on mine. It's no Essence ST/X, which it was up against, but does the job when mobile.

I decided to take those HD555's.
Just realized after reading this (http://www.headphoneinfo.com/conten...s-Review-878/Sennheiser-HD-555-Comparison.htm) that they're slightly crappier than the HD 650's you have.

The HD 650's are like what, R6K headphones! So -almost- HD650 sound for R800.
That friend of mine is going to hate himself for not listening to me :D

I upgraded from HD595. Huge improvement, but they do retain the Sennheiser sound signature, so are indeed similar in some ways.
