I've had the strangest prob in the world!!!!

When i try to connect to a LAN or internet an error comes up saying
"data differs from server"

I've set-up the firewall properly because I played yesterday on the internet.

Please could some one tell me the cause adn how to fix it.

Are you using the latest version of the game. sometimes the server updates to a new version of the game and they are not backwards compliant with the older versions. check that maybe..

I've got BF1942 1.6.19 which is the latest version.

i think I've found what the prob is but don't know how to solve it.

I installed a crack for Secret Weapons because I got a slow CD-Writer.( It WAS NOT A COPY)

I replaced the .exe file.

I've re-installed BF1942 and Secret Weapons but now the error says
"Invalid CD-Key"

I think the problem is that .exe file is wrong!

How do I replace with the right .exe?

LOL[] sure sure!!! joking... The speed of your cd-writer(assuring this is you only cd drive) should not make a difference. All the game files should be on your HDD and normally the music and arb stuff, usually just authorization is on the cd.

if you have used a standard exe replacement crack i would get the original one back and use it with the cd. Also if you have got a crack, the cracked exe must be the same as the current version.

If you have a non exe replacement crack this has prob changed the registry and you gonna have to manually go and find it to change the cd-key.

Sorry got a bit confused again...

I installed BF 1942 again with a crack because the ORIGINAL wasn't working and then installed BF1942 SW with the original cd key.

My question is the SW cd key was working but will it still effect internet because I got a crack for the original BF1942 cd key??

I' guessing that I still have to do the same method that you told me.

Prob. With the crack what did ou do. Was it a standard replacement exe or a small little "install" which you could not see what it was doing.

Also something which is getting bad in this country, alot of "originals" you buy are the complete oposite. I don't know how much you know about Half Life but my friend bought an "original" and the cd key was 13 "3's". It is a bogus cd but works to install the game. As soon as you try connect to an internet game it says invalid cd key.

Also off the topic have you tried desert storm yet. Great mod, very cool! I wouldn't waste my time with Vietnam though.

On the topic of cracked games. Why has nobody prosecuted defcon 5 (http://www.defcon5.co.za/) yet? They have at least 2 stores in pretoria and all of their games are cracked versions with a special patch directory. I know it's hard to prosecute some of these people, but these guys are selling illegal stuff out of a brick and mortar store and they've been around for quite some time now.

It was a standard .exe file and I won BF1942 in a competition with NAG magazine.

Do you mean Desert combat because I've got that one.
I don't have desert STORM though.

AArg my bad, I mean Desert Combat. My bad. I am very confused then why your gm won't work. Only thing i can possible think of is that the exe has something to do with it. get the standard one back and then re-install the update. If that does not work...soz u on ur own.

As you see on my above responses my original cd key doesn't work and the cracked .exe file doesn't allow me to play internet games[V]

CONTACTED EA SA AND EAUK BUT ARE BOTH USELESS

Or you can change/make sure your cd-key is correct in the registry by doing the following

Q: What do I do when I get an Invalid CD Key message? (#7278)
A: There are three things you can do:


First, try the clearing your Internet Temp Files and History:
1) Click on Tools in on you internet explorer
2) Click on internet options
3) Click on the 'delete files' under Temporary internet files.

Also clear your internet history

1) Click on Tools in internet explorer
2) Click on internet options
3) Click on 'clear history' under History

**You may have to restart your computer for the changes to take effect**

If the trouble still exists, this indicates an error in the Windows registry due to a bad or corrupted install.


Only if you are comfortable with the altering registry, you can reenter the CD Key. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA Games\Battlefield 1942\ergc and re-enter the key.


Try uninstalling the game completely, then before reinstalling delete the original game directory. Run Defrag and Scandisk. After the previous steps, reinstall the game and immediately patch it.

Hope this works. If this does not work you REALLY are on your own!!!

Regardless of the crack/patch whatever. The cd-key is the problem!
