BF3 on 3G viable?

Hey just recently got BF3, and want to jam online, going to get DSL in about 3-4months, just for the moment I would like to know if anyone successfully plays on 3G? I play MMOs on European servers at 250ping, so I'm hoping a local game would be viable.
 
Im on Vodacom 3G playing BF3. I live in a village 22kk out of town. Only got 3G available. On my old modem I had a ping of never below 110 and upto 160. With my new modem its between 50 to 80. You can play fairly well, but ADSl is still so much better. And cheaper. Im getting nightmares already for the expansions comming out next month.
 
Yeah as I said, only 4 months to wait. But I would like to play some now, have the game installed, just deciding if its worth downloading the 4.5gb of patch to play online on my seriously limited and expensive 3g cap.
 
Copy the update from a friend? Im sure someone can help you. I cant stop playing BF3. And IIRC next weekend is double points.

Nearly forgot about the double points weekend. Thanks for reminding me. If I see they got it working I swear Im going to play non stop the whole weekend. See how many times I can rank up :D

I have already started softning my GF. Im booking me time next weekend. Gona drop ammo like mad and revive everyone for ribbons. 10000 points for easy medals oh wait make that 20000 points :twisted:

Killing people also gets you score and capping flags, i sometimes see okes that are 4 for 15 but they top score :eek:
 
I play on 3g, cellC or 8ta.
Depends on where u live and the general signal strength and mainly latency.

Where I lived in JHB my CellC was great for gaming.
In Durban for gaming 8ta works better for me although CellC still works.
general ping 50 - 70 is my average.

If you can maybe try a few 3g options out, with maybe friends 3g cards, that will perhaps give you an idea of the best one for you.
 
BF3 works over 3G, I play using Vodacom (got that 2gb+2gb deal for R150 a month)

Most of the time my ping is in the 50ms area, with my dongle picking up 2 bars strength. But you get nights now and then when you lag badly, makes me swear like a 4 year old! But its most definitely playable over 3G.

As for patching, I update on my laptop at work then copy the dir to my gaming machine and I'm sorted.

sounds like me.... lol.. I sometimes battle with getting more kills as a medic but yes capping flags is def the easiest way to get score!
